Everyone except old people hates Facebook so my guess is that it has probably peaked in terms of political relevance.

Taintrunner posted:I think the thing about Hillary is that she was endemic of the problem of just how sexist our political system (and society at large) is. If you were a woman and you weren't vapidly pro-war, pro-Wall Street, incredibly right wing (centrist, same thing) then you are absolutely shut out of politics at every turn. I still kinda side-eye at this argument because hillarymen I know IRL kept using it as an excuse for Hillary's bad policies while trying to insinuate very heavily without outright saying it that preferring Bernie was inherently sexist "well, you see, it is impossible for this candidate to hold the positions you support, so therefore you should just give her a pass and vote for her anyway instead of someone else who does"

I am remiss that I must betray my ignorance in front of the whole suck zone thread, which I respect with the same important feelings that you would show when you become a pope or get selected be be the alternate to go on the moon landing, but what do the data centers do? Is it just the place where the criminal dick pictures are separated from the dick pictures that are keeping the economy going? Where the isms are applied to the profiles and put in the digital dossiers? Where the government divides the budweiser people from the miller people, the peter pan from the jiff, the pokemon from the digimon, the digipet from the tamagotchi, the black and mild from the phillies blunt, those who think bad times are coming from those who know they are? Is the data center a physical place or is it a description of a mindset in which the idea of data is placed at the center of one's being, like what had seemed to happen to Robby Mook, based on the book we read by Donna Brazile?

Warehouses full of computers designed to store data and handle transactions. Nothing really glamorous or special about them, except that they have become yet another way to fleece rurals and dodge taxes.

My larger point is that Hillary is a net-negative in so many ways, and rigging the primary in defense of timeshare billionaire economic babymen only to lose a critical election to a game show billionaire and trying to hold her up as some sort of hero or martyr when her entire political agenda was closer to Thatcher than anything else is incredibly misguided, especially when as what we're seeing in the news beyond the initial shock of these sex abuse incidents coming out is a gigantic call for restructuring the very foundations of our economy so incredibly wealthy, predatory men cannot look down on someone just trying to get by or have a career in places like Hollywood and treat them as less than people. When you look back at the Weinstein donations and Hillary's touting of her support of "real billionaires," these comments were about maintaining the power structures that let that exploitation take place. We talk a lot about intersectionality and how class gets constantly left out of the picture, but I don't think you can call someone who deeply believed in upholding and maintaining a consensus of telling people to "lean in" and be exploited by powerful men in the hopes of maybe getting a big payoff one day - of those that do, most don't, and that is by design. tl;dr hillary is bad death is certain loquacius posted:I still kinda side-eye at this argument because hillarymen I know IRL kept using it as an excuse for Hillary's bad policies while trying to insinuate very heavily without outright saying it that preferring Bernie was inherently sexist yeah and those hillarymen are fuckers who should be sent to the gulag
