when I was in ms and tx , drafts were $12 and pack per win. Out here in Vegas it seems to universally be $15 and store credit for doing 3-1 or better.

I've never had to rare-redraft at a store. Sounds awful. Done it several times with friends/people; got a foil Tasigur that way. Do like the local store's version of draft though: 1. Draft as normal. Keep what you get. 2. 1.5 or 2 packs/person prizes 3. Store opens all the prize packs. Each person chooses a card of their choice based on final ranking. I.e. first place gets first pick, 2nd 2nd, etc. First place gets 9th pick, 2nd 10th pick, etc, till all the cards are gone or each player drops out of choosing. It definitely incentives passes rares during the draft to try to get to first place and the draft has a definite competitive feel, while not really punishing people who want to rare draft (at the expense of their draft deck potential). Plus, everyone gets a prize!

my store charges 10€ with rare/foil pick as the only prize, another LGS in the area charges 13€ with 1 pack in the pool per player (and no repick, obviously)

I used to be okay with rare redrafts until the one I was in where I opened a foil Chandra, Pyromaster when M14 released and I took second.

Ugh, rare redrafting reminds me of why I stopped playing for awhile. My hometown's FNM decided to switch to double elimination, rare redraft. Scheduled to start at 7, so realistically started at 7:30. Would end at 12:30 or 1 normally. Nothing like sitting around for 2 hours to get your fourth pick garbage after a half hour finger pointing shitfest because one kid swears he saw a rare land that isn't in the final pool. Who in the world has time for that sort of poo poo?

Let me tell you about the time I paid $10 to team draft, beat Steve Rubin, went 4/0 overall, and got a.... foil Generator Servant and some worthless 25 cent rare because I rolled last place to pick for my team. I never did that again.

After the foil goyf thing, maybe people should accept moneydrafting is a part of draft and that maximizing your monetary value is the goal.

I think a lot of people are hesitant to admit that drafts are an opportunity to play the pack lottery without feeling guilty or feeling like a hypocrite when they normally espouse to never open sealed product. A rare redraft thus feels extra bad because even if you do get a winning pack you get to immediately then think about how "your" cards are eventually just going to get taken away for keeps.

Drafting should be seen in the same vein as going to the movies. Any "value" you may get from the cardboard you keep is just gravy.

Rare re-drafting sounds really dumb. We did an Onslaught draft just so we'd all have chances at some fetches & had some fun with the tribes. The last time I did a competitive draft at my LGS I got screwed out of prizes in top 8 (box of MM17) and it's the worst feeling. Didn't throw a tantrum, but I did have to single someone out later for an apology.

rare-redraft drafts are the best for actually playing the game. Raredrafting when there is prize support is fine tho.

When 2-1 last night with W/B with Elesh Norn and Blood Baron. Lost only to a Mardu deck that had a TON of removal and great temp (2 StP, Heat Ray, Doom Blade). Then I went 3-0 with UR tempo. There was so much blue and red on the table the guy next to me went U/R as well, but went with a slower build- he picked the 4x Claustrophobia whereas I went with the 4x Splatter Thug 3x Frost Lynx. There was actually a U/R/B player too who only went to black when it was painfully obvious that it was wide open. Quick tempo with strong unlease/outlast creatures is really the way to go. Lot of people are picking up bouncelands early to play 4-5c durdle decks and you can just punish them with quick, on curve, starts.

OWLS! posted:rare-redraft drafts are the best for actually playing the game. Politifact rates this statement as: TRUE. I didn't like redrafting at first, then I got better at draft and WotC got worse at printing valuable cards in sets, so now I'm pretty okay with it.

Did two back to back IMA drafts today. Traded most of my raredrafts for an Avacyn AoH and Archangel of Thune for a dumb mono white angel EDH deck, and a Sorin Markov to upgrade my Vampiric Bloodlust. Pulled a Horizon Canopy in the second draft it to upgrade my 7-year old's Feline Ferocity mana base; probably to have her complain about what will be the most expensive card in the deck doing damage to her. In our first draft someone got a Mana Drain as his P1P1and went mono-blue mill (and never got to go off with it, it ended up being used twice as a fancy counterspell). I was surprised not to see a single aether vial in 3 drafts so far, either passed, played, or talked about as a pick.

Did an Iconic masters draft and just clowned on everyone with UR Tempo. Went 3-0 in matches, 6-0 in games. Red was stupidly open and I just beat face until people died. I did get to see an insane game of Abzan Counters vs. Temur Walls that ended up being decided at turns by Vizkopa Guildmage. My deck: Monastery Swiftspear 2x Borderland Marauder 2x Elusive Spellfist 3x Splatter Thug 2x Jhessian Thief Illusory Angel Prodigal Pyromancer 2x Furnace Whelp Mahamoti Djinn Coordinated Assault Repeal 2x Hammerhand 3x Draconic Roar Claustrophobia Electrolyze I also opened Avacyn and foil Lotus Cobra, which was nice. This set is fun, seems less awful than playing against infinite Dinrova Horrors.

I got one of those triple IM pack blisters for $15.75 at target and opened three genesis waves. Also a foil Rampaging Baloths. My local store had them listed at $30.99, I mentioned to the cashier that I'd seen them online at $20.99 and she just uh... reduced the price. Without verifying anything at all. It was weird.

It's because retail is a horrible hellscape and it's easier to give you what you want instead of telling you you're wrong and you yelling at them and asking for their manager to come over and give you exactly what you want anyway
