It's okay, but I have don't have much patience for commercials nowadays, so I didn't stay with it.

I think I may give it a whirl when there's a Roku app.

I just got Amazon Prime. From what I can see they have a handful of movies that are too new for Netflix, but other than that I am very dissapointed.

The streaming stuff is mostly just a side benefit, if you're not going to take advantage of the free shipping don't bother. There are some good original series, access to HBO's legacy television catalog, and some movies that don't overlap with other services, but all that probably doesn't justify $8/month on its own.

Prime really shines if you're willing to spend an extra $5-10 a month and get a few add-on channels. Like Shudder if you're a horror fan($5), or Starz($8), which has a pretty big selection of movies at any one time.

It's also good for t.v. shows, so if you're in it 100% just for movies you're losing a lot of value there.

Prime originals can be pretty great, too. I really like Bosch so far, and the Tick is hilarious.

Check out some of their original programming, a lot of it is top notch (Patriot), or at least solid TV (Bosch, Sneaky Pete, etc).

This is just anecdotal, but a lot of Netflix original stuff has started to feel kinda auto-generated from meta-data, whereas Amazon's shows feel more like a human was involved in the creation.

I wonder if Netfix realizes just how much my subscription depends on the continued availability of the Great British Baking Show. BBC needs to crank that poo poo out much faster it's my heroin.

Farewell, good Hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

That show Future Man is way better than it should be. I am having a good time laughing thank you Hulu. There’s an episode that’s all about James Cameron and it was funny as gently caress.

I dumped Hulu in favor of this when they were running the Free Month then Free Chromecast promo. Not sure if that's still going. Haven't really regretted it.

They need to tweak their UI a whole lot though, but the selection is good and the service works well, aside from a few hiccups here and there.

Netflix's value proposition is really out of whack if you're not a fan of their originals (and honestly, I'm pretty cool on most of them). The streaming library is almost literally a quarter of what it was three years ago.

Value compared to what? Netflix still has a ton of great stuff that's not Netflix originals and there aren't a lot of other streaming services that are competing with them. Amazon has some nice stuff but if anything, Amazon's originals are a much bigger chunk of what's good compared to Netflix. Ditto for HBO.

Get Out is exactly what someone like you would probably want to see more of in the horror genre. It's basically just a really good thriller but with a bit of a classic horror twist. It's more tense than "scary", and none of the tension comes from graphic violence.

Catastrophe is a really funny comedy. Bonus, Carrie Fisher received a posthumous nomination for best guest actress on the show.

I'm just finishing up The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, the new original series from Amy Sherman Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls. If you like the fast quippy dialogue of Gilmore Girls, you'll like this. If you like the mid-century appeal with critique of the sexism at the time, you'll like this. It also has lots of swearing and boobs, if that's your sort of thing.
