i've evolved a lot in the last several years. i used to think men have dicks and women have vaginas and there is nothing else to it (i still think that to an extent, if i am being totally honest, but i have come to the realization that people should be able to do what they want in order to be happy as long as it doesn't stop anyone else from doing the same, and i don't hold it against anyone who is just trying to be happy with themselves, you want me to call you she, that's fine because it really doesn't affect me at all). i also thought trayvon martin was a justified killing, and backed the cops whenever they would shoot someone, without question. i was always a fan of obama, even though i will always say the way he handled foreign policy could have been way better, but gently caress, four years ago i might have voted trump. probably not coincidentally, i was an angry piece of poo poo and i hated everything about my life four years ago.

Maybe I'm just jaded from all the pew pews overseas but every police incident like this makes me think back to being in 10th grade and having a DARE officer explain to our class how when he makes a traffic stop he has to be ready to shoot us. Because that's the reality of his job, every member of the community is potentially going to draw down in every encounter, which makes self defense the primary function of "protect and serve"ing those people. So really most cops are like PFCs without a PSG there to stop them from loving up, and they can be PFCs for as long as they feel like busting public skulls right there at home. Nothing will change until there is some institutional commitment to anything beyond loyalty, but since there are like tens of thousands of separate institutions good luck with all that.
