Dear reddit, I wanted a grenade so I got one. Then I felt I wasn't ready for it so I pulled the pin. Is there any way to get the grenade back?

My (24M) engagement with my partner (22F) ended and I'm scared I'll lose her, please help!!

quote:

Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time post so any advice will do and thank you all in advance!

Me (24M) and my fiancé (now girlfriend, 22F) love each other very very much. We've been together for a little over half a year now and a few weeks ago, I proposed to her; she said yes. It wasn't until recently I decided to call off the engagement because I thought I was still too young and immature to be married.

Even though it was me that called off the engagement, I still want to be with her. As of now, she's really devastated and doesn't know what to do or say. I just wanted to say that I ended the engagement, not the relationship, I still love her to death and want to be with her. I would do anything for her. I told her in the beginning that she's the one for me and that I'd marry her in the future and she thought the same way about me too. Right now I'm just.. I'm just scared that I'll lose her, I really believe that she's the one for me, was I wrong for calling off the engagement? Please help me, I'm going crazy not knowing if what I did was right or wrong.

TL;DR - I ended our engagement due to my thoughts of being too young and immature to be married but I still want to be in a relationship with her.

I would trot out my usual "Jesus loving Christ," but this thread has numbed me.

I mean, you know being engaged doesn't mean poo poo, right? You can be engaged for a whole other decade, leading the poor girl along and not really having any obligation, other than a moral one, to close the deal.

"We've been together a little over half a year..."

When you you have to sell yourself on how long you've been together by saying "over half a year" instead of "only six months"...

I only use Okcupid because I'm a cool kid who doesn't have a Facebook.

I generally try to screen for attraction online, and meet in person to see if there's a spark. If somebody has bad pictures (not clear if they're fat) I'll usually increase my standards for the rest of the profile. I've met some fat girls who I still enjoyed talking to. I've also met some people who just don't have good pictures and actually were super attractive.

But once I showed up and the person wasn't just like, someone who'd chosen the most flattering angle. I'm convinced the photo was not her, or if it was it was 5+ years and about a hundred pounds ago.

She started getting almost angry when I scanned the bar, yelling that she is ALICE (not her real name) and "Don't you dare walk out pretending you didn't see me"

Now normally I'd have sat, had a beer, and said I had an early class and never talked again, content that at least I tried a new craft beer.

But I was so annoyed I was just like "Sorry, I don't think this is a match, I'm going to leave".

She is like "You HAVE to stay, I bought you a beer".

I look down, and it's something hoppy. I don't even like hoppy beer - I prefer stouts and porters. Plus, I'm pretty sketched about drinking something I didn't see poured.

So I just said that.

"Yeah sorry, again, I don't think it's a match and I don't drink anything I didn't see poured. Here's a 5 for the beer"

She ended up screaming at me I PAID FOR A DRINK YOU AGREED TO A DATE I WANT A DATE REEEEEE.

At that point I just booked it out through the kitchen.

The best part is she figured out what I was doing and CIRCLED around.

As I sprinted away from the bar into the cold December night, I thought

"So this is what it must feel like to be a woman on OkCupid"

The cries of the dead are terrible indeed; you should try not to hear them.
Seems like a pretty mature decision to make. It only feels bad because humans are stupid babies that feel bad when they perceive themselves to have lost something, when in reality the situation has just gone back to exactly what they were happy with before. But yeah, he could have just remained engaged for years rather than saying TAKE BACKSIES a few weeks later because you didn't really think it through.

Girlfriend’s Sister Sent Me Nudes (self.dating_advice)

quote:

The title says it all. I’ve (24M) been with my girlfriend (23F) for three years and her sister (19F) and her have always been super close. The last few times I’ve been around her sister, she seemed flirty and a little handsy although I was very unresponsive and kind of pushed her away. She’s young and just broke up with her boyfriend, so I kind of wrote it off and gave her a pass on it at the time.

Anyway, this morning, she texts me a bunch saying that I’m hot or asking for blowjob tips. Now I keep trying to defuse the situation through texts. Saying it probably inappropriate for her to ask and she should stop. I’m not attracted to this girl, and definitely don’t want to gently caress up what I have with her sister.

Then about an hour goes by and I get the nudes. Three pictures of her completely naked. I’ll spare you the details, though I’ll give her some credit, she’s quite creative. I text back saying she shouldn’t have sent those. She begs me not to tell her sister.

I don’t know what to do. Should I tell my girlfriend about this and pretty much ruin the relationship she has with her sister? Or keep it to myself as long as she doesn’t text anything else. I think this girl has self-destructive tendencies and I don’t want to have to be he messenger. What should I do??

For me, it's literally the personality that makes it or breaks it. Just went on a date a few weeks ago with a girl I met online. When she showed up, she was heavier than I expected. Had a great 2 hour conversation with her and ended wanting to take her to the bone zone. But I'm not a man slut, so that's waiting for date 2.

My hot take: nudes from people you know are bad when you are in a relationship in general, nudes from siblings of your partner especially so

Porn is generally fine, but you're just being autistic if you're gonna try to march it out and say "Well looking at nudes of porn stars you're never going to meet is fine, so why not that girl you met at a party????"

You gotta tell and misdirects. "GF, I'm sorry, but I think your sister might be adopted or only share one parent. Look at the differences between you and her here, here, and here."

Obvious solution is for the dude to tell his girlfriend that her sister was sending him inappropriate texts but not explicitly mention the nudes as that would probably be a relationship ending drama bomb with the family turning against him to protect the younger sister. If he doesn’t tell his sister it will eventually come out and end the relationship.

I [17M] made my best friend [17F] cry in front of our entire class when she was supposed to give a presentation

quote:

We were in English class and she was supposed to give a presentation. We needed to boot up a computer for her to give a slideshow and while it was booting she came over and whispered in my ear "You cross your legs like a girl because you have no testicles."

I knew this was an innocent attempt at humor and I felt like making a little "come back" so I whispered in her ear "You cross your arms like a boy because you have no boobs."

She just stood there like a statue for a second so I turned around to repeat what I thought was our funny little conversation to the kid behind me. But all I said was "hey dude" before he asked me in a worried tone what I had said to her, so I looked back and saw that she was crying. Then I looked around the room and saw that everyone was staring.

After what felt like an hour, the teacher awkwardly asked her if she needed a minute. She said no and gave her presentation with her eye liner all messed up. Next period I didn't have the same class as her, but I have it with some of the same people as English. Next thing I know everyone is asking me what I had said to her, some suggesting I had "dumped" her.

After school I sent her a text apologizing and saying how I didn't mean to hurt her feelings (not asking for forgiveness BTW). She responded saying "You're actually completely straight, aren't you?" She makes jokes about me being her "gay best friend" sometimes. I said yes and she said "You like big boobs, don't you?" I didn't know the best way to respond so I just said yes. So she sighed and said "It's okay. I'll see you tomorrow. Love you."

Now I'm left confused about her reaction to my joke in class, and what she said after. I also don't know what to say to all the people who want to know what I said to her. I hurt her feelings really bad and I want her to feel good about herself.

tl;dr: Teased my friend and hurt her feelings way more than I intended to, and want to understand why!

My hot take is that she could dish it out but wasn’t ready to take it. Also she probably wants/wanted to bang him.

The 'probably' is a language thing. It's a way to tone down the stupidity of what she did. Pretty common in Australia at least to say 'probaly shouldn't have done that' about something that you obviously shouldn't have done.

Like if your colleague was wearing a baggy cashmere sweater at the landscaping business you run and accidentally got the trailing sleeve stuck in the woodchipper, you might remark 'Yeah mate, probably shouldn't have worn that today' as he's sucked into the whirling vortex of pulping blades.
