Forrest also turned hard against the Klan and in favor of black equality within less than a decade, I wouldn't really file that as a reason to hate him. The main problems with him are being a Confederate general, and being the commanding officer during the Fort Pillow massacre. On balance I'm pretty sure I'm in favor of taking down his statue. edit: well hm didn't notice the part where it's on his grave unless there's an aggravating circumstance I think I'm against Goatse James Bond fucked around with this message at 05:14 on Dec 21, 2017 |

The grave is not being desecrated or disturbed in any way, it's just not being permitted a loving shrine on top. I fail to see why there needs to be aggravating circumstances, the man should not be buried there in the first place. Having the public pay for your tomb's upkeep is an honor that no Confederate leader should be permitted. Not letting his tomb also have a giant statue to his glory should be a no-brainer Also according to what I read the city is not taking the statue down, they sold the park to a private company so THEY could take the statue down at their own expense. Now, that's an obvious technical smokescreen to get around whatever bullshit stopped them the LAST time they tried to take this statue down, but the factual reality is the land is now privately owned, and the private owners don't want it there. If the man's descendants want to move the remains to private land of their own they can put as many statues up as they want, at THEIR own expense.

Freepers will be just fine, lecturing the rest of us about personal responsibility as they step into their gold-plated sarcophaghi. So I'm pretty sure Trump has turned me into an accelerationist, but also only because I can see the finish line now within the next five years after one year of Trump, but if they really do that, it's such open and brazen generational warfare (which is already occurring, just quiet dog-whistle style), that I'm not sure they really fathom what the backlash will look like.

I used to think the "gently caress millennials and probably gen X" method of destroying social security was the obvious way to go since it would get support from Serious idiots across the aisle that think we just don't have enough money to fund it and have to make Hard Choices which just happen to not affect the age group that has been loving the young for decades. However after the tax reform I think the GOP just doesn't give a poo poo anymore and if they can save a few dollars by letting boomers die off then they might as well go for it since they have concluded the people over 50 will die voting Republican and defend the party to their graves.

The state barred statue removal because "are history" The City wanted to remove the statues but couldn't do it directly They could, however, sell the land to a nonprofit who then could remove the statue since it was private land. So admittedly, it's a little skeevy in terms of skirting legal restrictions, but it's aboveboard.
