So there have to be FReep tears about the Newport News, VA recount, right?
Yeah, this one made me smile a little bit:
quote:
It is statistically impossible for recounts to always slant one way. Yet in election after election Republican victories are overturned or narrowed after recounts. This means Virginia is now Maryland. The rats that were elected are hard-left communists committed to Marxism. Virginia is now, exactly like Maryland. A detached urban “elite” dictate the policies Statewide for the rest of the people who want nothing to do with them.

BTW for anyone not following this:

Democrat Shelly Simonds took the Virginia House of Delegates seat Tuesday from Republican David Yancey
The final numbers: 11,608 for Simonds; 11,607 for Yancey.

Well, that’s a shame. There is no tie-breaker in the VA House, so there will be a lot of horse trading going on. VA is truly lost.

What's happening is the criminal class is coalescing into centers of power. Maryland and Virginia surround DC. The West coast (Cawlifohnya) is concentrating about LA, San Francisco. East Coast is concentrating along the NYC-Boston corridor. Chicago is trying to pull in Milwaukee and Madison.
Think of it as the political versions of "safe zones". I personally think of them as roach motels.

compared with 2009 race in which a Republican governor was elected:
Deeds (dem) 818,809
McDonnell (Rep) 1,163,523
What this shows is that the democrats have nearly double their total over an 8 year span while the republicans have remained about the same. This is due to the following: 1) increased immigration (including northern states as well as undocumenteds); 2) felons; 3) voter fraud; and 4) Democrats developing an effective get-out-the vote ground game.

Here’s the thing, recounts consistently and beyond statistical variability favor one side over the other. All things being equal, some of the recounts should expand the vote count for the GOP candidate. This is very rare. Almost without variation, recounts slant toward the Democrat.
Either there are shenanigans with the vote counting process OR Democrat voters are so stupid that they can’t properly mark a ballot in the first place.
I’m sorry, but if you are so stupid that you can’t fill in a circle on an optical scanner, your vote shouldn’t count.

All the south did was declare independence from a section of the country that had financially raped them for decades leading up to the war, then defend their homeland against those who insisted that this financial slavery was not going to end. Slavery ENDED in the United States of America the minute all of the slave holding states left the union. The war was not about ending slavery. It had already left the union. It was about keeping a subserviant section of the country in the south subserviant to it’s masters in the north.

Forrest also turned hard against the Klan and in favor of black equality within less than a decade, I wouldn't really file that as a reason to hate him.
The main problems with him are being a Confederate general, and being the commanding officer during the Fort Pillow massacre. On balance I'm pretty sure I'm in favor of taking down his statue.
edit: well hm didn't notice the part where it's on his grave
unless there's an aggravating circumstance I think I'm against

The grave is not being desecrated or disturbed in any way, it's just not being permitted a loving shrine on top. I fail to see why there needs to be aggravating circumstances, the man should not be buried there in the first place. Having the public pay for your tomb's upkeep is an honor that no Confederate leader should be permitted. Not letting his tomb also have a giant statue to his glory should be a no-brainer
Also according to what I read the city is not taking the statue down, they sold the park to a private company so THEY could take the statue down at their own expense. Now, that's an obvious technical smokescreen to get around whatever bullshit stopped them the LAST time they tried to take this statue down, but the factual reality is the land is now privately owned, and the private owners don't want it there. If the man's descendants want to move the remains to private land of their own they can put as many statues up as they want, at THEIR own expense.

Spoiler: The cuts will be phased so that boomers willl be mostly dead by the time they kick in. Freepers will be just fine, lecturing the rest of us about personal responsibility as they step into their gold-plated sarcophaghi.
So I'm pretty sure Trump has turned me into an accelerationist, but also only because I can see the finish line now within the next five years after one year of Trump, but if they really do that, it's such open and brazen generational warfare (which is already occurring, just quiet dog-whistle style), that I'm not sure they really fathom what the backlash will look like.

I used to think the "gently caress millennials and probably gen X" method of destroying social security was the obvious way to go since it would get support from Serious idiots across the aisle that think we just don't have enough money to fund it and have to make Hard Choices which just happen to not affect the age group that has been loving the young for decades. However after the tax reform I think the GOP just doesn't give a poo poo anymore and if they can save a few dollars by letting boomers die off then they might as well go for it since they have concluded the people over 50 will die voting Republican and defend the party to their graves.
Could be a problem for them if their voters die early from lack of insulin, in large numbers.

America’s enemies on the Left are creating facts on the ground. We need to do the same. Deport illegals. All of them. No exceptions. Then we can debate the “rights” of DACA illegals, the “needs” of self-proclaimed refugee illegals, the contributions of the working illegals who take American jobs from Americans, and the desperation of welfare illegals who just take our tax dollars, or the potential of underage illegals who strain our schools and other government services.
Let’s have all those debates, but let’s do it after the criminal illegals are gone from our country - all of them. And all illegals are, by definition, criminals. “We are a nation of immigrants” and my ancestors were immigrants, but they were legal immigrants. Those in my family tree came here anywhere from 90 to 450 years ago, but none did so in violation of the law.

Respectfully, the United States was preeminent in the state of South Carolina. The Battle Flag was removed from it’s place flying above the Capitol dome under the American Fla, POW/MIA flag and the state flag of South Carolina. It was moved to a memorial area on the statehouse grounds at part of a compromise. When the flag came down off the Capitol dome, those of us who are pro history, realized that was a stepping stone to the destruction of our history. As predicted, it didn’t stop there. The radicals used the convenient excuse of the Charleston church shootings to remove it entirely from it’s place of honor. It’s not going to stop there, it will continue until all vestiges of White culture are eliminated from public view in favor of the Hip Hop generation’s world view..

quote:To: GailA
Let statues of the more honorable confederates like Lee remain, but the one of Gen. Forrest ought to be removed to a museum. Under his command, black union POWs who surrendered were brutally executed, making him a war criminal — as bad as the WWII Jap generals. Later he rose in the ranks of the KKK, as if he had not already done enough to oppress blacks. Today, we are still suffering from the sins committed in that era by men like him.

Those are lies. Forrest ordered no massacre at Ft. Pillow, unlike Sherman who unleashed “total war” against Southern Civilians. Forrest was in fact the “first leader” of the Klan, but the Klan was not the terror organization it morphed into in it’s later days. Forrest ordered the Klan dissolved in 1869 after a series of attacks on freed slaves. The only people still suffering the sins of that era are those who refuse to leave the Democrat plantation.

You are believing a fable. Any study of the primary records from both sides shows that is not true. The battle was lost the moment the Confederates took position on the flanks and in the old fort. Forrest asked for a surrender. The Union army chose to fight.
As for his leadership in the KKK. Reconstruction forced many Southern hands. When Brownloe was no longer governor, Forrest disbanded the klan in Tennessee.
He didn’t oppress blacks. The fought with him and alongside him. They considered him their friend.

The state barred statue removal because "are history"
The City wanted to remove the statues but couldn't do it directly
They could, however, sell the land to a nonprofit who then could remove the statue since it was private land.
So admittedly, it's a little skeevy in terms of skirting legal restrictions, but it's aboveboard.
