I'd say it did actually increase weapon diversity and pew pew, but it wasn't popular.

The really fun parts of ghost heat: it was months before there was any kind of in-game mention of this system so your previously fine Swaybacks and Awesomes were suddenly running super hot with no explanation, and shortly after the implementation of this system, they added the "Golden Boy" variant of the Kintaro. Which carried more SRMs than it could fire under the ghost heat system.

MW5 looks worse than MWO does (in terms of visuals). But I guess that's to be expected, after all MWO looks worse now than it did when it was in Beta. PGI's way to develop games seems to be to make them uglier as time goes on.

This reminds me how in MW2 you could jet in directions so you could strafe and rush forward etc. You could have one leg completely destroyed but you could still slide along the ground with your jump jets and get to the extraction point and win anyway. Man, I miss that.

MW3 multiplayer wasn't too infested with poptart builds, but that was mostly because the netcode was so amazingly bad that attempting to actually hit an evading target while jump jetting was fairly difficult. MW3 multi was mostly about giant medium laser boats alpha striking each other. MW4, Black Knight, and MW4 Mercs were poptart paradise, though.

In base MW4 pop-tarting was popular but not very effective. A number of the maps made it hard either by not having cover set up in a way where you could do it within weapons range or having an area that made you easily flankable behind your cover if you tried. Plus you could lock people behind cover if you had a sensor lock on them so it was easy to see when they were going up for their jump and drill them right as they came up with your super accurate weapons and use that to throw off their shot. In competitive games you basically never ran into it (or at least I didn't), it was just what pubbies would do in open games and they'd usually get smashed.

It was all about supernovas alpha striking with as many CERLs as they could at once every two minutes and then crouching as they overheat so you can't shoot back.

Yeah, MW5 is going to be garbage, I have no faith in to make a good product. What I find funny is that they've shown dozen of videos, but they've never show the player with any lance mates, almost as if the game doesn't have any.

I thought MW5 would only be using procgen for its side missions. What I could find from Polygon (I know, I know) says:quote:Forsey and his team settled on a blended approach that uses procedural generation alongside hand-designed missions and set piece encounters. That said I don't much care for procgen at all so ugh.

Also, as far as I can tell, every video has a mech going out and shooting a ton of tanks/aircraft, blowing up some buildings, then heading back to the dropship. In the Shadowhawk mission I watched, there was one light mech (Jenner or Locust?) that they barely fought. Everything else was a turret, tank, or plane.

Procgen in 3rd person is a well established and successful method of making good games, I have yet to find an FPS that relied primarily on procgen and was good.

It's not that the Jenner's too huge, it's that PGI didn't understand the square cube law and made most of the light 'Mechs too tiny (and most assault 'Mechs way too big).

I don't know, the terrain looks much better than MW4's endless canyons and hills, the grass and trees look fine, and the effects look fine for a beta. To me the game looks good, as long as they ditch ghost heat and incorporate some of HBS's balance tweaks the game should PLAY like a big stompy mech game should. I agree that there definitely needs to be a story though. It would be beyond foolish to not incorporate HBS's overworld/merc campaign style. It's already built and looks absolutely phenomenal.

I think rescaling is hard because models are made of lots of bits and you have to rescale them all? Idk how hard it would be for a modder.

Hopefully PGI will take a note from HBS and make all the values for weapons/armor/the campaign/etc open for modding. So even if PGI can't balance for poo poo, the community will be able to release balance mods to make things tolerable.

What I hope HBS adds in a future expansion is multi-stage missions, that would be awesome. Having really difficult series of missions like that where you have to really worry about conserving ammo and spreading damage around enough so that your mechs can survive the next set missions before being able to return to the Argo, is really my kind of jam. For example: You go on a two stage mission, where you have to rendezvous with some vehicles you need to escort, you fight a few enemies, stage ends and you get to do a very limited amount of logistic work (like field repairs, restock ammo, etc), then the next day on a new map you're escorting those same vehicles to their final destination, maybe fight a few more mechs. Or another example, you can do a mission that plays out like any other normal mission, but your contractor betrays you, and now you're spending the next few stages trying to fight and escape from them.
