This mission dropped me off on a cliff that I can't walk down and my two Orions are stuck on top. On the bright side I guess I get height advantage as I draw in the enemy to the cliff.

I went to a system to do a contract, and said "I'll do this in a bit" and levelled my guys. I went back to the contracts screen and there are 4 contracts, and when I try any one of them it says 'this will break your current contract'. I can't tell which is mine but I went to this system for this contract... my contract should be one of them. Does anyone know how to tell what your accepted contract is?

Can someone explain the point of the precision strike ability? I have a pilot with guns 8 right now, and I never get above 15% to hit. If it was a guaranteed critical or whatever I could understand it being so tricky to aim, but it's just a normal shot that might sorta maybe possibly hit a location near somewhere you might maaaaaaybe want shot. Am I missing something? is there a trick to it or what? or is it really just that bad?

The aimed shot is much better than the 15% chance might look. I pretty much use it whenever I can and it's saved my bacon many times by blowing up legs.

I don't have the Argo yet and I just got my first Heavy, a Dragon. Took a really-good paying Assassination mission (2 skulls) and brought 3 mediums and a Firestarter. The VIP's escorts were some vehicles and a Locust, didn't have too much trouble taking them out, and then I just flamed the Dragon so he couldn't do anything and had all my mechs take potshots at his head. None of them killed him so I started a melee beatdown and before we wrecked him my own character got a melee attack hit on the head, insta-kill, and oh look I negotiated for 4/18 loot so I get a shiny new Dragon and a AC5+

Called Shot does not alter your chance to hit your target, it just increases the likelihood a successful shot hits a specific area of the mech.

King Doom posted:So what exactly are the mechanics of it? I select say the head, and it lists it as being 2%. Is that a 2% chance of any shot hitting the head, a 2% bonus, what? So by default you have a 1% chance of hitting the head. If you select the head, then you have a 2% chance of hitting the head and with a resulting reduction in chance to hit any other part of the body. Basically hitting a specific part of a mech is more or less random. The only thing you can do to change this is alter the angle at which you are attacking (you can't hit the right arm if you're shooting from their left, for example) or use Called Shot to weight the RNG towards a specific body part. Indirect LRM fire comes from above so it's got a pretty good chance of dinging a head but they made it so that missiles cluster around the first(?) missile to land so you're not rolling like 40 chances of headshotting someone.

Melee Centurion is pretty good. First mission it was on, it punched an enemy's head off, disabling the mech instantly. Loaded it up with a bunch of short-range missiles so what it can't punch, it knocks over. What it can't reach, it lands on with its jump-jets.

Your heat skyrocketed because a Firestarter punched you and then unloaded its flamers into your mech. Support weapons fire after melee attacks, and foamers specifically jack your heat up but do very little damage.

So, uh, I managed to acquire an Assault before I finished putting together a single Heavy. It did give me a GREAT place to put all the ++ LRM launchers I'd been acquiring for awhile though. I've since managed to get my hands on a full Grasshopper too from a single mission. Hilariously enough I still haven't finished putting together the Quickdraw, Jaegermech, or one or two others I'd had parts from for a while before I ran into the Grasshopper. In terms of timeline, I'm currently in-between the prison mission and the next one. Now that I've actually got something other than Mediums I'm probably going to take it on soonish.
