Yeah, HID in halogen reflectors or halogen projectors are terrible since the brightest part of the HID bulb will be at the tips of the arc while for a filament it'll be in the middle. Most housings use the dim part of the filament to give fill lighting to light up road signs, with HID's in those housings suddenly that fill light is super bright dazzling oncoming traffic. Same goes for the light directly in front of your car that now is overly bright reducing your vision in the far field. And the dimmest part of the arc is now lighting the area that is expecting the brightest part of a filament, so your beam pattern is garbage.

With the old style LED's you get a fuzzy beam pattern as the origin of the light is multi point as the bulbs had dozens of chips. The new style looks to actually produce a decent focused beam pattern from what I can tell. Less risky with a fog light anyway as they shouldn't have a reflector designed to scatter light upwards for road signs as that'll be handled by the main low beams

Despite knowing about both for years, I never realized bikeisland was the scratch and dent part of Bikes Direct. Neat. I'm planning on getting a better MTB from one of the two (depends on stock) sometime this summer.

I actually picked up a new cruiser for riding around town about a week ago and finally got it put together/tuned up for its maiden ride last night (just a 20 minute shakedown before the rain started).

The bike's nothing special: it's a Schwinn Community that TJ Maxx had for $160 but it should meet my needs for a townie bike just fine. Cushy-as-gently caress seat, rear rack as standard equipment, a more or less upright riding posture, and a front suspension that handles potholes nicely.

Smashed the everloving gently caress out of my fingat while airing up the tires on my wife's cruiser, though. Caught it between the front basket and the frame as it fell toward me when I accidentally hit the kickstand. I don't think I broke it but boy howdy is it sore this morning.

Read the specs on the MTB carefully, a few of them are really old, which mostly matters in the forks, though there are also some triple MTBs, which is kinda funny.

Someone stole my $20 worth of freeze dried backpacking food Amazon left on my parents porch (I send to my parents because people steal from my house. . . .). I know it was delivered because the dude took a photo of it and my parents door is really unique. Amazon already refunded me, but it still annoys me.
Thankfully they stole that box instead of the $140 worth of poo poo in the two other packages next to it. How loving weird.

I'm not in the best neighborhood, but there's four USPS parcel lockers right next to the mailbox. All 4 were empty when I left for work today (keys in them), all 4 were still empty when I got home. That's why I'm so annoyed (also the carrier never tried coming to the door). It was a serpentine belt and two sets of headlights, shouldn't exactly be a large package. First time I've ever had USPS not leave something, so I don't know what the hell.

Need the belt ASAP as it's never been changed and shows some pretty bad rot, and I've been driving 100+ miles a day on it, on average (highest so far was 400 in a day - put almost 5k on the car in the ~6 weeks I've had it). Headlights were more because wholesaler closeout and wanted something brighter (also, original bulbs from 2005... they're not exactly new, I think even the shittiest bulbs would be an improvement). Figured I'd try two varieties of brighter Wagner bulbs, since they were less than $3/ea.

I lost a $XXXX prototype PCB due to the mailman leaving a parcel at the front door of the facility I work at. It was tagged to be signed on delivery and through the dispatch dock for security. Even if it was classified as 'safe drop' the photo of proof that it was 'safe dropped' from Australia Post doesn't actually show the parcel in frame. Of course Australia Post just shrugged it off.

And to me nothing will beat when my wife and I were standing in the garage, UPS guy gets out, walks to the door with a missed delivery sticker, sticks it on, then just walks away as we're both yelling for him that we were right there.

It'd need to be truly clean sheet stuff to say it's bespoke, really, but even then, using the term for something other than clothing or related stuff is a bit desperate.

"Bespoke leather interior" on a Rolls Royce is potentially a reasonable phrasing, if it is.

When you say "Triple MTB," is that as in triple crankset? My bike knowledge is spotty since I've only recently started viewing them as anything more than "a way to get around that's not my car" so I'm not sure why that would be a bad thing on a mountain bike. I'm at the "knows enough to be dangerous" stage.

Basically, I realized that I'm a lardass and thanks to some weirdness with my foot and knee, running ain't happening. So bikes it is. And then I realized I live in an amazing area for mountain bike trails and I should use them.

Yessssssss... But there's be quite a bit of loving about with standard for bikes, so pay attention to things like wheel size and steerer diameter. I would expect a cheap bike nowadays to be a 26" wheel and 1-1/8" straight steerer.

He may mean triple-clamp forks, which unless you're dealing with stuff that really justifies them (you almost certainly aren't) are just adding weight for style points.
