Originally the bot and glider problem was so rife that they tended to segment out the Chinese, because the buggers are motivated, mainly because it supplements a fairly low income by Western standards.

I think 2006 they exposed one Chinese prison was farming loot in WoW for cash for the prison adminstrator, the downside was they hadn't cleared it with local party officials.

There must be an internal division over at Intel that's super embarrassed about all the money and effort they put into Optane tech development. I can't even imagine the usage scenario for Optane memory except for suspend/wake. Just spend the few seconds streaming the memory image from your Optane drive into memory upon wake.

I don't get it.

Now Intel has made slower memory that wears. Good work, everybody.

So the game is unplayable and we haven't even figured out basic basic low-level engine poo poo like culling, but hey gameplay is 50% done!

Ah, i guess that's gameplay for 3.2, which is like... being able to fly a single ship in a single instance? I don't even know what that's supposed to mean but clearly they're not making any real progress and nobody on this project knows how to properly manage or schedule software development.

I can see non-volatile memory being useful for energy saving or something for certain programs running in data-centers that deal with a small consistent cache of data.

But yeah honestly seems fairly niche. It just doesn't really save you THAT much, since everything is designed to work with volatile RAM anyways. We already figured out how to cache to disk to sleep...

I was on a team of ~10 guys who built a beta for an MMO (cancelled, sadly) which had most of these features back in 2009.

Its a bit of work but really not as hard as CIG are making it seem.

Of course, even if they could write an engine that could handle these basic features, they've promised infinity additional gameplay features and modes that nobody could ever hope to implement fully.

What cool poo poo? Beyond just static models that do nothing, what cool poo poo? There is no cool poo poo.

I mean this poo poo is all psychological. If you can pretend CIG has actually made progress or that the ATVs actually show content or that your money is being well spent or that development is actually on track then of course it's a small step to go "Man (______) is cool and only confirms exactly what I want myself to believe!"

Trying to apply reality or objective facts to Star Citizen backers has consistently failed since the kickstarter. Nothing will ever work and anyone operating on a rational basis will constantly be on a different wavelength.

Seriously, an asteroid could end human civilization and they would be in a flooded subway station licking algae off of the walls talking about how they just need to wait for CIG to get a generator going at the offices that most surely survived so they can finish up 4.0. Chris Roberts is such a genius he obviously saw the asteroid coming and planned for it. Nobody will ever break a faith based viewpoint as long as the people that need it, need it.
