One motor and a crankshaft and some carefully measured linkages. Not that it wouldn't be cool to do it the modern way, with stepper motors and a microcontroller and solenoid valves and so on, but this way is just really elegant.

Did something happen that made people buy up all the AMC eagles all of a sudden? I have a saved CL search that used to bring up a bunch of good results and now there’s almost nothing. This one is nice https://vermont.craigslist.org/cto/d/1983-amc-eagle/6597876473.html

If Eagles are anything like my dad's Hornet they stop running and never get fixed, eventually disappearing forever (in a cloud of rust).

I've been on the low-key search for a 1981 AMC Eagle SX/4 for quite a while. It would make a very interesting land-speed racing car.

The prices over the last 5 years have definitely jumped. I've been low-key keeping an eye-out for a good example here in MN and there are certainly opportunities that spring up from time to time between here and WI, but they're often pretty beat up. I think it's primarily because 1) their rarity outside the mid-west 2) low survivor rate and 3) quirky unrivaled American product! (produced in Kenosha WI)

Ford was working on radar cruise control and lane keep assist in 1969 In 1965, advertising new engines for your 10 year old car in the local newspaper was just normal poo poo, probably because metal and oils sucked

It's probably super hard to judge heights and see around other cars. I could see a fully autonomous truck being basically that with batteries where the driver sits though.
