Concerning WYSIWYG: A local neckbeard told me on my 2nd ever game of 40k: “You should only field visually accurate armies or people will think you’re trying to cheat”. He then proceeded to throw a minor tantrum every time I rolled well, and the local store manager kept saying: “It’s just a game Phil, calm down”. It was a 30 power game with hardly any units and it still felt like it took hours. Awful. Do other people take WYSIWYG really seriously? I can understand it in tournaments, but are people gonna get on my case because I’m asking them to pretend that my predator has all lascannons rather than heavy bolters?

Sounds like a standard jackass if the lgs guy was doing the whole "come on Phil..." thing.

Why do Intercessor sprues have options for equipping them with knives when they don’t have access to them in the actual rules?

I assumed they represent what the Intercessor uses in close combat. Just because they don't have a knife statline doesn't mean their weapons in the Fight phase have to be their rifle butts.

CUPOLA MY BALLS
They do have a knife statline.

The statline for knives is S: User AP0 D1, per the "close combat weapon" statline in the core rulebook that ever model has.

Combat knives as used by models such as reivers and scouts are a different weapon.

A lot of the times they don't show up until they go live, but people with inside knowledge will leak the details or even a promo page link early on Slickdeals.

The kind of people who care about WYSIWYG that much in a friendly game are the kind of people you don't want to play with anyway.

Yeah, Phil is an rear end in a top hat.

The only thing about WYSIWYG you need to keep in mind is that your counts-as is consistent and not confusing. IE avoid "this heavy bolter is a lascannon, this heavy bolter is plasma cannon, but this heavy bolter is actually a heavy bolter".

To use your own example, "all preds are all las" is perfectly fine. "This predator is all las, but the other one is not" when they both look identical is not.

WYSIWYG is lovely as an aspiration and wretched as a demand.

It's also impractical. As noted above, there's lots of bits in the marines tactical box that are just for decoration... until a new edition rolls around and auspex scanners (or whatever) are wargear again and cost points and can only be taken on certain models.

Moths covered it really well. It's mostly that a lot of people have really nasty ideas of what Slaanesh is and me not wanting to accidentally reinforce or support that. Slaanesh, for me, does the "what could be good, but corrupted and amped up to 11" thing in the most interesting way of the 4 Chaos gods. I also have avoided the literal tittysnake miniatures, though.

No one else is packing floating gun turrets in kill team.

Been wondering about this, but I am guessing it is maybe something with there being a separate leader class that hasn’t been shown off yet. Would be nice if that was the case similar to how other GW skirmish games let you pick a leader and some specialists / champions.
