The new Obscura is packed with excellent farty basslines. New Immortal is fuckin' ridiculous too. Favorites after my first listen are Called To Ice and Mighty Ravendark.

Going to Migration Fest in Pittsburgh in 2 weeks.. lotta cool bands but the time slots are kinda weird maybe. Zombi is a synthwave headliner which is probably okay but a Bongripper headliner should be happening. Pelican should have the last slot over Krallice imo. No complaints for Sunday though. FRIDAY – Doors at 4PM Zombi – 11:10 Khemmis – 10:00 Bongripper – 9:00 Yellow Eyes – 8:00 Derketa – 7:00 Fórn – 6:00 Couch Slut – 5:10 Cloud Rat – 4:20 SATURDAY – Doors at 2PM Krallice – 11:00 Pelican – 9:40 Mizmor – 8:10 Spirit Adrift – 7:30 Deadbird – 6:10 Ominous Circle – 5:10 Mutilation Rites – 4:10 Scorched – 3:20 Immortal Bird – 2:30 SUNDAY – Doors at 2PM Panopticon – 10:30 Mournful Congregation – 9:20 Thou – 8:10 False – 7:10 HELL (US) – 6:00 The Cancer Conspiracy – 5:10 Tomb Mold – 4:10 Daeva – 3:20 Pyrolatrous – 2:30

If you love old crusty metal you’re going to be psyched about this- Axegrinder came out with a second album after 29 years! I loved Rise of the Serpent Men https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMsSvJB8IDc Haven’t yet heard Satori, the new one, but it’s in Spotify so hell yes. Here’s hoping the album is good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cl_owpBiT4Y

However, I'm absolutely obsessed with the instrumental track "Children's Laughter" because of how it's so different from most instrumental tracks and listen to it daily. It really makes me hate Earache even more than normal because they are very much responsible for Anata never giving us another record.

Yeah, I vaguely remember there was supposed to be a 5th album in the works and gradually being more disappointed it never came out. I don't really think I want to know the story of why because I would probably just get depressed. Even if it suddenly appeared before me right now I think I'd wind up disappointed since I already listen to the other 4 albums all the time over the years.

If I remember correctly it all stemmed from Earache not liking what Anata had come up with. They had an entire new recording ready to be released and Earache just wouldn't do anything with it. There was talks of the band putting it out themselves and it seemed like they were well on their way to doing just that, but that was at least three or four years ago and there's been nothing done since then.

Me, in the thread for the retro music genre made and listened to primarily by 35 to 50 year olds: all these old bands aren't good. I'm going to listen to contemporary technical death metal instead.

I saw Behemoth play a criminally short set at the Slayer farewell tour and that alone has got me hyped enough to go to this tour. ATG will be sweet, unfortunately it's probably in support of their new album. WITTR will be great and as close to seeing Weakling as I'll ever get.

ATG usually play a decent selection of older stuff as well. I have yet to hear of a concert where they didn't at least play Slaughter of the Soul, Blinded By Fear, Nausea and Suicide Nation. They know the strength of their old albums.
