Khemmis – 10:00
Bongripper – 9:00
Yellow Eyes – 8:00

Spirit Adrift – 7:30
Deadbird – 6:10
Ominous Circle – 5:10

I've loved this band for so long. Did anyone else ever do anything similar?

You can consider this a type of counterpoint, though it probably wouldn't satisfy the definition for a proper music theory nerd. But it's the closest I can come up with as a useful descriptor.

Solefald did a lot of interesting stuff with counterpoint in their late '90s/early '00 experimental period between The Linear Scaffold and In Harmonia Universali. One of my favorite examples (and one of their best songs) is the second half of "Christiania" where it continually layers in new melodic lines:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvPZrvWM2Xc

e: there's something fairly close to that Anata-ism in the Martyr album that was posted earlier, too:

"Under A Stone With No Inscription" is one of my all-time favorite records and I listen to it at least once a month from beginning to end. However, I'm absolutely obsessed with the instrumental track "Children's Laughter" because of how it's so different from most instrumental tracks and listen to it daily.

It really makes me hate Earache even more than normal because they are very much responsible for Anata never giving us another record.

Yeah, I vaguely remember there was supposed to be a 5th album in the works and gradually being more disappointed it never came out. I don't really think I want to know the story of why because I would probably just get depressed. Even if it suddenly appeared before me right now I think I'd wind up disappointed since I already listen to the other 4 albums all the time over the years.

If I remember correctly it all stemmed from Earache not liking what Anata had come up with. They had an entire new recording ready to be released and Earache just wouldn't do anything with it. There was talks of the band putting it out themselves and it seemed like they were well on their way to doing just that, but that was at least three or four years ago and there's been nothing done since then.

I saw Behemoth play a criminally short set at the Slayer farewell tour and that alone has got me hyped enough to go to this tour. ATG will be sweet, unfortunately it's probably in support of their new album. WITTR will be great and as close to seeing Weakling as I'll ever get.

ATG usually play a decent selection of older stuff as well. I have yet to hear of a concert where they didn't at least play Slaughter of the Soul, Blinded By Fear, Nausea and Suicide Nation.

They know the strength of their old albums.
