The Parasite Eve movie is actually pretty good.

Is it based on the original book or is it actually tied to the games?

It's an adaptation of the book, and came out before the video games.

While watching this I was desperately hoping the .gif would not cut off before the whole bubble was frozen. I don't know what I would have done if it hadn't finished. WE REALLY DODGED A BULLET THERE GUYS

About halfway through I got worried it was going to be one of those ones where someone ruins the thing when it's almost done.

Wow. Adding suffering to the bubble really changes the mood of the gif.

This is amazing work. As a student of science I can say that I've seen hundreds of gifs like this, and have shown little to no emotion. The gifs were just windows to a past I've never lived in, bubbles who I never knew or would ever know. But this gif made me stop and evaluate. Putting cartoon eyes there made me actually look at what is really happening. Putting something that everyone is familiar with in a situation that no one knows, and to make people feel those emotions well, that takes amazing talent. Thank you.

Probably not. You can create this effect with a displacement effect. You basically have ramp from top to the bottom that will displace the footage a different amount.

I think it was done in camera, that wads the gimmick/purpose of it.

Slit scan used to be a practical effect, now you can do it with time displacement in After Effects or something similar.
