At SEA, sometimes the Pre-check minion is a local employee and I’ve told them I have Pre and they let me through... (Asiana didn’t support Pre-check and I figured it was a worth a try...didn’t expect it to work)

If it one person with a Pre escorting a party of people without then I can totally see a TSA agent loving up. As for people not getting flagged...it's the TSA. Half of their staff don't know their procedures anyway.

If someone without PreCheck is in the same booking/reservation as someone who does have it, they'll get PreCheck on their boarding pass as well, but usually they'll be flagged in the system. They can do the regular PreCheck stuff, but TSA is supposed to swab their hands for bomb juice after the metal detector.

How would they have any idea how the queue will be sorted with 2 agents checking passes/IDs and the 2 conveyor belts filtering to a single walk through metal detector? The hand swabbing is chosen at random.

Then after the metal detector, another agent took the card and swabbed her hands.

Just used 220,000 AAdvantage points, which was about 18 months of travel + card spend, to book business class tickets for wife and I from the west coast to Europe for my 40th birthday next summer. This thread motivated me to consolidate my loyalty program and points cards as much as possible - thanks y’all! I expected some fees and taxes, but not $2k worth; getting to Japan in United was much cheaper two years ago. Looking on track for Platinum with AA again after a hiatus of two years, and should hit Gold with Marriott for the first time, although it looks like their status is getting watered down pretty hard. It’s a long shot for me to hit Executive with National and although I don’t really rent cars much now, I have some work starting up later this year that will be more car dependent, so I might start pushing to rent more. I’m on a regular three week rotation to the Midwest that keeps me on site for 3 days and 2 nights; add in some driving trips across Southern California in the intervening weeks and it’s about as much as I want to travel for work. I’m not sure how KillHour has kept his sanity. Anza Borrego fucked around with this message at 06:28 on Sep 1, 2018 |

Anza Borrego posted:I’m not sure how KillHour has kept his sanity. *Ron Howard Narrator voice* He didn't. Did you book British Airways flights? BA tacks on ridiculous fuel surcharges, and passes it on to partner award travel, and London has high luxury taxes if you're connecting there in business/first class. If you can find AA award availability that work for your schedule, you'll use the same number of miles and only pay the 9/11 security fee.

The AA west coast to Europe service is superior in Biz than BA. Have spent way too much time in both. First, maybe a different story.

E/N time: I’d be paying for it (personal travel) and I fly about 2-3 weeks a month domestically from O’Hare. We had a really slow Q1 so my segments are lower than normal and this year all to places like LGA and Kansas City so the mileage is a crap shoot. I think I’m gonna say gently caress the game and book award travel instead. In things that the thread actually cares about I finally signed up for rewards on my Corporate AMEX ($90 and a 5 minute phone call).

It’s not the seat width/leg room that’s an issue on BA’s 787 economy seat, it’s that there is almost no padding so you feel like you’re sitting on a metal bench for 7 hours. I’d consider being one of those people that brings a huge rear end pillow if I have to fly BA’s 787 in economy again.

I'm 6'5" and I can sit comfortably in American's economy on its 767s and 777s. On BA's 787s my legs cannot physically fit.
