haha, reminds me of when I got a ticket for no front plate in college. I wore a suit and was very respectful to the judge and the ticket got thrown out. The next guy, also a student, dressed normally, (went to school with a bunch of rich white kids, though I wasn't one of the rich ones, lol) busted out of the courtroom after his ticket was upheld, and the bailiff came out and chewed his rear end out and told him to go back and apologize to the judge.

When I used to drive my beater-rear end spray-painted '94 Accord in high school I constantly got pulled over for no front plate because I was too lazy to zip-tie it to my front bumper. I always had it sitting in my passenger foot-well and every time I'd just be like "Yeah I got in a fender bender and put a new junkyard bumper on last week, I just haven't put the plate on yet. Look, I have it right here!" Got away with it every time Apparently they don't give a poo poo now though, because I haven't had a front plate in years and can't remember the last time I've been pulled over.

I am dumb and still dont have photos, but Jeffs Statesman has actually run the guantlent of a methhead and survived with ZERO issues except busted wheels. Jeff took delivery literally 5 minutes before our surpise replacement car. Many beers were had, and now we are just going to transplant the SC V8 into Jeffs. The black one we had was pretty much a donor so oh well. It's funny how priorities work, one of best mate, first thing I thought of was the car seats for the girls. The story of Jeff is over for now pending insurance changing locks as the methhead is still on the loose with the original keys. Through the beers I did hook up a janky killswitch for now and a few security cameras for peace of mind over his house.

"Thanks for letting me know officer, these older cars don't have sensors to tell you when the lights go out!" Truth is tho my ex accord actually does have a brake light warning on the dash Imo driving an old but well cared for beater that looks presentable is probably the best way to avoid getting pulled over.

Well the prosecutor was dressed casually and she didn't listen to a single word I had to say. 17 years of clean record meant absolutely dick. My choice was failure to obey a sign for $200 and two points or drive all the way back here a third time for a trial. gently caress the system.

Plead innocent or guilty and if pleading innocent then there's a trial later. When you said before you were going to the courthouse I thought you had already done the preliminary step. Down here the first hearings are done by a magistrate and there's a bulk lot of people/cases to go through in a limited time. There's no full trials or witnesses etc possible in that bulk setting - most people with lawyers request an adjournment and rebook a trial date too. I had a failure to control ticket tossed about seven years ago after some idiot in the wrong lane of an interchange nearly changed lanes into me and I bounced off a guard rail trying to avoid being sideswiped. Officer didn't show up the day of the hearing, prosecutor said she hadn't been able to reach him for the week leading up to the court date. Went before the magistrate, explained my side of the story and the prosecutor shrugged because all she had was what was written on the citation. Ticket was dismissed after I objected to the prosecutor's request for a continuance on grounds that I was using PTO to appear in court and it would be highly unlikely I'd be shown the same courtesy if roles were reversed. Although it probably helped that I had a reasonable excuse for the cause of my ticket - if they have you dead to rights blowing a stop sign there isn't much you can do besides hope the officer doesn't appear.

No, it was massively inconvenient for me to go to a courthouse ~150km from my home twice in the middle of workdays (admittedly it's only like 30km out of my way on my 164km commute). I took a lesser charge of failure to obey a sign for $200 and 2 points because I realized that this particular court did not give a gently caress and I didn't want to end up with my original charge of 34 over + 4 points and to have to make a third or possibly fourth trip and miss even more work. I would've been able to handle it over the phone if the cop who pulled me over and I had realized that I had actually handed him two insurance cards, only one of which was expired. I got lasik this year and it kicks rear end. Also, they gave me a DVD with the whole procedure, so I'm able to show all my friends the doctor cutting open the flap and all the fun parts. The only thing that sucked was around 45mins after it finished, my eyes were really feeling irritated until the drugs they gave me to help me sleep kicked in. Once I slept for ~4 hours, I woke up and felt fine. I paid $4k, but I planned ahead and maxed out my FSA at $2650, so it was really only ~$2675 in after tax money.
