quote:

I'm in Pennsylvania, by the way.

So both of my parked cars were smashed in front of my house by a drunk driver, my neighbors called the police because the driver appeared to have fled the scene to avoid responsibility. After about an hour, the police reported that they got them and we all celebrated.

My father's best friend appears the next morning at his house, (as he always does) and apologizes that his daughter, whom we all know and care about, is the one that smashed both my cars. My parents recommended our family's lawyer and told me to just forget about it. However, the police report still has all the underpinnings of a hit and run. This is actually her second DUI. While I can't help her with that, the police still haven't submitted the police report for the accident.

So I'm obviously not pursuing civil damages because I care about her and there's no way in hell that she left the scene to avoid culpability. Her father has gone above and beyond to help me more than once in the past at his own expense.

So no civil... But what about CRIMINAL CHARGES???

It's worth noting that the police officer has yet to submit the report and will do it tomorrow in the evening.

Can I update the police report? If so, how??

How do the criminal charges work? Do they depend on the civil charges? Can I drop the criminal charges, too?

Is there anything else I can do to prevent criminal charges?

How does an insurance claim impact her legally, if at all?

My parents keep telling me to stop worrying and all I can do is hope for the best, but I'd pretty upset to find that she gets a jail sentence because I didn't do anything.

Please help.

This one is decent, but the op gets real salty in the replies when people point out that, maybe, shielding an addict from the consequences of their very dangerous actions maybe isn’t the best idea

quote:

You know what? You're right!

Rather than using my extensively informed understanding of her life and circumstances and taking into account the fact that I've never seen her drinking when with the family, I should take any advice from disgusting and overly judgmental narcissists that browse legal forums and offer nothing but unsolicited advice on how to be a repugnant human being that goes around judging people based solely on the fact that they made a mistake.

They just made a mistake! Twice! And probably a million more times than the op knows aboot

quote:

Again, as I said to other poster, the moral advice isn't really applicable in this forum. I'm well aware the DUI is something beyond me. My only concern regards the Hit and Run charge.

Bear in mind, they were both MY vehicles. It was insanely unlikely, but I have no doubt she could reasonably assume I'd be alright with her getting back to me. She likely just panicked when my neighbors rushed towards her and left, though. I can't confirm that because she's a bit too mortified to speak to me right now, but there's zero doubt in my mind that I'd be the one that would readily help her had she stayed.

quote:

Well, I went to the police station and significantly effected the police report.

In fact, the police officer that was working on a deadline for the accident report has apparently delayed it because nobody has received an email.

Ergo, I DID have a significant impact on the police report and you should update your legal advice heuristics to impact that.

quote:

I appreciate you scumbags that contribute nothing in terms of advice.

quote:

And yet I did. The accident report the police officer was working when I got there is now far past its deadline.

I honestly think that you people that have no clue at all what you're talking about should evacuate this subreddit.

I had no idea this subreddit was such a complete cesspool of fake moral righteousness.

It's been going on for half a year ish and it's mostly been really good! But during pres a week ago, he revealed he used to eat his ex-girlfriend's [20-ishF] rear end all the time and I can't get over it. Maybe I'm too much of a germaphobe but I could never do that and I'm weirded out by kissing him now. He's always been respectful when I've said we'd never do any anal stuff and I like him for that but whenever we kiss I just think "that tongue was in someone's rear end".

It sounds weird but I just can't get over it! I don't want to tell him because I'm scared he'll laugh it off and tell his friends about this. Should I just break up with him? Because when we had sex after I learnt this it was crap compared to the past because I'm so weirded out by this.

tl;dr:My boyfriend used to eat rear end and I'm grossed out by it. I can't kiss him anymore without thinking of it and don't enjoy sex anymore. What should I do?

From dear prudence

quote:

Dear Prudence,
I was the second hired employee for a tech startup. Over the years, we have grown significantly, and I am now in charge of three relatively new employees. All three used to work in the corporate world and still dress like it, despite our company’s informal dress code. I wear T-shirts and jeans every day, while they wear chinos, collared shirts, and in one case a tie. My boss has expressed his displeasure in their dress and wants me to address it. I’ve attempted to, but they ignore me and even call my clothes unprofessional. Our other employees dress casually and feel like my employees are uptight snobs (which they are). What should I do?
—My Staff Dresses Better Than Me

I think this is worth revisiting with your own boss, especially since it sounds like this is your first time managing employees, and the problem is larger than just dress code. But first things first: Make it clear to these three that commenting on their boss’ dress is not part of their job descriptions. Tell them, “I understand that in the corporate world there are different rules, but in our field, and in this company in particular, my dress is customary and appropriate.” Then go back to your boss and say, “I’d like to talk with you about the best way to handle my new employees. I’ve spoken to them about how we don’t adhere to a corporate dress code here, but nothing’s changed. I’m also seeing that the rest of our employees have noticed their standoffish attitude. I think this problem is larger than how they dress, and I want to make sure we’re on the same page when it comes to addressing it.” And if your company doesn’t have an official dress code, and it’s relied on everyone just “getting” the culture and automatically dressing to fit, you may find that it’s time to revisit that policy.

Up the ante. Turn up in top hat and tails, or a pimpin fresh zoot suit.

When I was about 2, I loved Pepsi. It was my go-to but my parents, being smart, didn't let me have but a sip every once in a while. My dad liked Pepsi and rum together , so I'm sure you see where this was going when I saw his glass left unattended. One sip of sweet Pepsi later and the rum burned my tongue and throat. My mom likes to tell me she came in and saw me crying and hysterical, but denied drinking dad's drink, but I, being a smart toddler, kept pointing at the drink and saying it hurt me BUT I DIDN'T DRINK IT.

What kind of idiot calls their boss's clothes out as unprofessional? You would get at a minimum a warning for insubordination at most larger companies, whether you are right or not. That she doesn't know how to handle it tells me she isn't very good at the whole "management" thing.
