With the heavy lift ships you do need to be in moderately deep water (and the ship in question needs to be able to float at least a bit) in order to lift the damaged vessel. It also takes a long time as the tugs adjust the damaged ship to put it over the blocks. When I watched them with the FITZ it took a full day to get it on the heavy lift, and even then they messed it up and had to come into port to adjust from the pier. It was pretty cool to see though.

At least it wasn't as bad as the damage the McCain got from their heavy lift back to Yokosuka.

Looks like he started a regular corpsman. Then went scout/sniper with a marine unit. And he was apparently bad at all his jobs.

Look, guys, I get it. I've been in some pretty hosed situations where people tried their little hearts out to kill me. But what separates the military from a group of armed thugs is how we conduct ourselves. And killing prisoners, or just randomly shooting at civilians, is not what the military does. This whole poo poo-show and the apologetics I've seen people engage in because of it are pretty loving disheartening.

Let's all agree that killing civilians is wrong and killing a prisoner is wrong. Can we all do that?
