Well that does sound ominous.

To add to this, even if you were a farmer trying to save seed from Monsanto and re-plant it, you'd find that your crops would basically suck compared to the seed you bought from the company. The high performance of their "elite hybrids" only really sticks around for the 1st generation of crosses, crosses that they perform to generate the seed you buy. And it's been this way for like 100 years at this point.

The way I've seen it she's literally the voice of D&D in congress right now and like the only high profile politician with a far left enough position for the collective to accept. Not sure it's how she says it so much as what she's saying shoots so far down the line of D&D's concerns (and does the whole scoring dunks thing on social media) that I'd swear she must have an account and post here. It's funny that people think Trump is the poor disadvantaged people's champion when she both looks and acts the part so far in her career.

I notice she's never really started poo poo though, more just responded to it being flung at her from literal other parties and they've really been all the gently caress over her this week, singling her out for smears, and lying their goddamn face off about her intentions to "stir up trouble and revolution" . As some of the better pundits have pointed out it looks like an attempt to start the whole divide and conquer strategy against the Democratic house early. They really ought to back off a little too cause it's not going the way they plan and just makes them look even more like petty lying idiots that don't know how to play the social media game nearly as well as they seem to think.

Such a big strong president man that won't even watch the tape to get to the bottom of a pivotal international matter because he claims it might contain too much suffering. So nice of the president to confirm publicly in many ways just how fragile he is and that he yet again can't be counted on to do the job of a President. I guess we'll just you know....never know what really happened because man that tape is just tooooooooo graphic. I mean how can you really know

I think this really does take the cake for the pathetic look of Trump as President. Kind of amazed at how he keeps managing to top himself only a week or so after not attending the 100 year anniversary of the WWI armistice cause he might risk getting wet. At least he gives the Chris Cilliza's of punditry even easier fodder for a bit to write about how "Trump has abdicated the moral authority of the United States and here's why in case you somehow can't figure it out by all the headlines"

it's not terribly uncommon, it's just a weird situation that the CDC would be able to identify a specific food item but not be able to identify a region or production method for that item. in december 2017 there was an outbreak linked to general "leafy greens" but they weren't able to pin it down in time for the danger to have naturally passed beyond the shelf life of the expected contaminated food, aka it was all eaten or rotted so everyone who was going to get sick had already gotten sick so outbreak over, i guess

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2018/s0110-update-ecoli.html

quote:

On January 10, 2018, the Public Health Agency of Canada reported that an outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 infections (STEC O157:H7) they had identified was linked to romaine lettuce appears to be over.

In the United States, CDC, several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration continue to investigate a multistate outbreak of 24 STEC O157:H7 infections in 15 states. Since CDC’s initial media statement on December 28, seven more illnesses have been added to this investigation. The last reported illness started on December 12, 2017.

The likely source of the outbreak in the United States appears to be leafy greens, but officials have not specifically identified a type of leafy greens eaten by people who became ill. Leafy greens typically have a short shelf life, and since the last illness started a month ago, it is likely that contaminated leafy greens linked to this outbreak are no longer available for sale. Canada identified romaine lettuce as the source of illnesses there, but the source of the romaine lettuce or where it became contaminated is unknown.

Planet Money recently did an episode on food warnings like this, covering the semi-recent E. coli romaine lettuce outbreak: https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2018/08/24/641739640/episode-861-food-scare-squad

The tl;dl is that it's really hard to even identify the vector of the outbreak, and once the vector is identified it can take even longer to isolate it to a specific region or farm(s). So the warnings often start out very broad to try and avert as much damage as possible as quickly as possible, then narrowed further over time as the investigations find the specific location.

So in this case they probably have enough evidence to say that it's romaine-related, but not enough evidence to pin it on a specific location yet (or even at all, it could be something like bad handling at transportation facilities which might not bind it to a specific growing region). So the warning is a blanket until they get more details.

I think that's the usual conspiracy statement, but I typically hear it tied to more racist things. "Those filthy farm workers just poo poo where ever."

Realistically, food is cleaned and processed after harvesting to minimize these kinds of problems (you can never eliminate them entirely; lettuce traps plenty of dirt) so it's more likely some rear end in a top hat not doing their food safety duties.

Chalk me up as another person who just bought a head of romaine to use for dinner tonight.

Prooooobably not a good thing to have a judge speculating on your filing being sanctionable:

Seems like the judge is completely through with the Gov's attempt to delay poo poo in the hopes that they can drag it out past the point of no return when all the forms are finalized and printed.

fecal contamination is usually the issue but it's related to animals and contaminated water most often, not dirty fly-befouled immigrants (or oppressive overlords preventing bathroom breaks in the less racist version)

hot take: maybe we should pay agriculture employees enough and give them reasonable working hours so they don't have to poo poo in the fields just to make quota.

That was ultimately the reason for the last romaine lettuce contamination outbreak right?

no, it's far more likely to be linked to an animal fecal source than human. "workers forced to poo poo in the fields" is just the less racist version of "pedro don't wash his hands" when there's a far greater volume of uncontrolled cattle excrement in ag areas than human excrement

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/03/180312150520.htm

https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2018/08/29/642646707/investigators-track-contaminated-lettuce-outbreak-to-a-cattle-feedlot

think about it for a second - how many workers would have to be secretly dropping trou in a lettuce field (lettuce doesn't grow very high and isn't that easy to secretly crap in) and what would their intestinal viral loads have to be at in order to cause a significant national outbreak? meanwhile, there's a shitload of cows a quarter mile away...
