they fight through proxy wars (like yemen) and the US supplies the saudis with weapons / probably other shady services, but doesn't send actual troops or bombers in large scale opposition to iran directly

Saudis have the resources to engage Iran in proxy wars, Israel doesn't.

Israel has always been our vassal state there, them being our 'ally' is meaningless. They gently caress around with their narrow chunk of the region and we dump weapons on their heads like gatorade. Honestly makes sense if you look at it that way yeah.

Damian Collins, the chair of the culture, media and sport select committee, invoked a rare parliamentary mechanism to compel the founder of a US software company, Six4Three, to hand over the documents during a business trip to London. In another exceptional move, parliament sent a serjeant at arms to his hotel with a final warning and a two-hour deadline to comply with its order. When the software firm founder failed to do so, it’s understood he was escorted to parliament. He was told he risked fines and even imprisonment if he didn’t hand over the documents.

Maybe we wouldn’t have put an open rapist on the court, but whatever judges were chosen would be equally as bad in rulings.

I think actually everything would be worse. There wouldn’t even be a token media pushback against the neocon agenda. Probably no Women’s March being the largest protest in US history. No leftward shift of the Overton window. No mass awakening of Millennials learning they need to loving vote and get involved.

Hillary probably would have been crushed by a GOP standard issue ghoul and not even won the popular vote.

As lovely as these times are, I’m glad it’s not another Republican in the WH more competently loving America.

Facebook, which has lost more than $100bn in value since March when the Observer exposed how Cambridge Analytica had harvested data from 87m US users, faces another potential PR crisis. It is believed the documents will lay out how user data decisions were made in the years before the Cambridge Analytica breach, including what Zuckerberg and senior executives knew.

MPs leading the inquiry into fake news have repeatedly tried to summon Zuckerberg to explain the company’s actions. He has repeatedly refused. Collins said this reluctance to testify, plus misleading testimony from an executive at a hearing in February, had forced MPs to explore other options for gathering information about Facebook operations.

I'm pretty indifferent on whether RBG gives the turtle another seat or not. The entire institution is already turbo-hell-hosed for decades as is, really not going to shift the course of the nation. Either dems find a loving spine and pack the court to fix poo poo or the entire supreme court is just something to be written off as hopeless.

Facebook joined a brief in a case where the US government was trying to force Microsoft to hand over data held in an overseas server farm because. In that brief there is a lot of stuff about the law in question but the section I quoted from can be summarized as "don't flippantly gently caress with the privacy rights of the citizens of other countries because their governments take that poo poo extremely seriously, are justified in doing so, and will retaliate hard".

I just found it amusing that Facebook signed onto something that rightfully identified messing with the privacy of foreign citizens as a dangerous rake on the ground only to stomp on that rake a few months later.

RBG was 75 in 2008. that she didnt resign when dems controlled everything was just arrogance on her part. a 60 year old justice has the luxury of waiting around 10-15 years for the president and senate to flip to their party, a 75 year old should immediately jump when they have the chance.

Sounds like they actually were in talks, but Oberto realizes that executing foreign policy when you aren't the president is a bad look.

Now the only question is, did someone tell WaPo this because they're incompetent, or because they want to spike the deal.

I mean, they did. I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of Mexico housing but no safe third country deal is reached - if the US isn't going to house them in the states, Mexico is going to house them by default. Might as well get something in return, like dropping the threats of closing the border.

Even a one or two day closure would be catastrophic, although I don't think the president can do that unilaterally.
