Rudy Giuliani seems to be really involved in this Turkey thing, and not in a good way. There some suggestion here that there might be good reason he's providing a desperate defense of Trump, and not because he just really believes in Trump. I'm not totally sure what to make of it yet..

The extent that modern conservative ideology is anti-women both abstractly and concretely is so extreme that it's getting into isolating feed back loops for right wing young men. That MRA culture has largely fused with young conservatives, insofar as they exist, should terrify the gently caress out of anyone who actually identifies as a conservative and has any hope for the future of conservative politics.

Those people are getting radicalized right along with the incels because the MRA and incel nonsense is just standard conservative ideas about women being taken to their logical conclusion.

The entire conservative establishment just unified behind putting a duplicitous unhinged sexmonster on the supreme court despite having a list full of ideologically-vetted business stooge candidates to pick from any one of whom would have ruled just like Kavanaugh and would have sailed through with 54 votes like Gorsuch. It was all completely unforced but sticking a finger in the eye of the American woman became the goal.

The only worrying a traditional family values conservative is doing over the party's descent into open woman-hating is worrying over how to make it illegal for women to vote.

The next white male president should be elected in 2230. No, that's not a typo, and if McCain had won it'd have been 2246. Two centuries of a mix of white and PoC women wouldn't quite cover the white male bias the system has had so far.

E: Definitely no men until the 2246 election, as gender sits pretty close to 50/50. The exact ratio of white women to WoC is harder to figure out exactly, should it be based on current numbers or the historic population data?

E2: If anyone cares we can follow this up in USPOL.

That's a good point that it was specifically intended as a gently caress you to women. I think that's a more accurate analysis than the popular idea that they wanted someone who would defend sexual abusers. The amount of rage towards women in the young conservative/mra/incel world is completely insane and I think largely flies under the radar to most men. Like we live in a racist af society, but I see far more misogyny on a daily basis than racism. Young men and lonely old guys are really, really loving bitter.

Pray for Answer
Sen. Jeff Merkley Wants to Stop Congress Members From Insider Trading By Banning Them From Owning Stocks

quote:

Sen. James Inhofe, an Oklahoma Republican recently elevated to chair the Senate Armed Services Committee after the death of John McCain, was implicated recently in what looked to be an insider trading scandal. A few days after meeting with President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis to successfully advocate for a military budget increase, Inhofe purchased between $50,000 and $100,000 of stock in defense contractor Raytheon, which stands to profit from additional defense spending.

Inhofe tried to manage the controversy by claiming that a third-party financial adviser handles his stocks and made the purchase without his knowledge. Minutes after being questioned about the trades, he wrote a letter to his adviser, asking him to no longer trade defense or aerospace stocks. Inhofe has even taken to carrying around a card with a stock reply to journalists about the matter.

But the Raytheon trades represent only a fraction of his trading activity. The same day that Inhofe revealed the Raytheon purchase, he also disclosed the sale of between $15,000 and $50,000 worth of stock from Celgene, a biotech firm, along with a similarly sized sale of stock in Aptiv, the auto parts maker formerly known as Delphi. A month earlier, Inhofe revealed trades in General Electric, Salesforce.com, American International Group, XPO Logistics, Albemarle, Intuitive Surgical, and Intellia Therapeutics.

There’s no way to test Inhofe’s claim that a third party manages his stock portfolio, absent a monitor tracking Inhofe 24/7: He could make a phone call or send a message to direct a trade at anytime. But it’s clear that Inhofe is trading millions of dollars worth of stock a year, while voting on legislation that affects public companies.

The newest story from these reports details, in particular, that the Russian government specifically targeted the Mueller investigation as soon as it began. The big deal about the reports, though, is that they were commissioned by a bipartisan Senate committee and the R committee chair is agreeing with their findings.

You know, last week, when we found out that Cohen committed crimes and lied to Congress on the order of Trump, and that Mueller had the receipts.

How exactly would they achieve this? It seems as though a significant chunk of the base is fine with the explicitly racist messaging. The GOP can try to stuff the racist cat back into the bag, but I'm not sure how well forgiven they'll be by the Trumpists. The GOP is simply incapable of winning any but the reddest of red districts and states without them.
