So it looks like most of the northern half of the US will be bitterly to deadly cold with regular snowstorms for the forseeable future due to the  POLAR VORTEX. Is this the point where air travel just starts to fail? Good loving luck getting people to show up on a snowy 0 degree at a job that isn't paying. It's going to be a really lovely time for those affected either way

This is from a ways back because I'm never caught up with this thread. Party Plane Jones posted:a week or two back I posted an article about healthcare pregnant african american women receive and it was the most depressing thing During the birth of our first child (we are white) we got stuck in group triage for a long time, like 10 hours. This was in Savannah at Chandler. During that time an African American women came into maternity triage. She kept telling them something was wrong and nothing happened for quite a while. Eventually she started hemorrhaging. They had to transfer her to Memorial ( which had the good neo natal stuff) and which was basically across the street. We don't know what happened after that but it was horrifying when they wheeled her out of the triage. The worst thing was she probably had gone to Chandler because it was the "white" hospital thinking it was better (but it was definately not nessisarily the better one). During the birth of our second child we were in the PNW. There was a complication, it was identified extremely early and a emergency c-section happened. If we'd had that complication in the south, I'm convinced the child I'm holding right now would have died or have been disabled by the birth. This type of systematic racism is deadly.
