I'm digging the 100% pure selfishness in his politics. All he cares about is maximizing the money is his pocket. Foreign policy, social issues, the impending climate catastrophe, nazis marching in the streets, babies in cages? None of that matters, just which party leaves me with the most money at the end of the day. Purestrain FYGM.

MAGA-folks getting pissed because they can't do arithmetic and didn't realize they got their "tax cut" through changes in the withholding tables throughout the year (and SALT deductions primarily go to higher earners so they probably didn't get those) live by the dumb sword, die by the dumb sword. that's a lol, friend

they didn't increase taxes, only the amount of taxes you have to pay, good thing you also didn't spend the last decades voting over and over for austerity measures to gut social programs and the safety net so that you can at least enjoy expanded services as a result of the influx of middle class money!!!!

is there any good summary on why specifically so many chuds are getting hit on their taxes by the tax law changes? my return was smaller this year but not significantly so. but my taxes are also super simple and i don't have any dependants or anything, im just your average salaried wage slave.

they thought they were benefiting from it just long enough to vote for Republicans again lol it's also why the IRS offered no guidance for HR departments on how to handle withholdings and stuff, because if they did they'd of given up the game

Not sure if anything has been written on it but I think it is due to the elimination of mortgage deductions and although many aren’t seeing huge increases they were all expecting huge refunds this year. The real pain will come in 5 years when the individual tax breaks expire and tax liability skyrockets.

There were plenty of analysts who said that FY 2021 was when the GOP could no longer hide that their bill was an increase on the middle class and a huge giveaway to business and the wealthy. Guess it's starting early.

The tax bill was insanely lucrative for the very rich (AMT change, etc.) and they were passing it with reconciliation, so it couldn't be filibustered, and I think also some other stuff had been passed using a budgetary technique that passed their costs onto annual reconciliation (??) so the long and short of it was there was a pretty low cap on how much the tax bill could cost. They pushed a lot of the cost-saving terribles way out because democrats are suckers who will always prevent those from hitting, wasting their own reconciliations cleaning up the mess while republicans can use them to trigger reconciliation. However, given the massive costs of what they were giving to the rich, they had to actually dump a shitload on the middle class, that's how you have the mortage deduction, alimony deduction, etc. stuff. There was literally no other way to pass the bill, so they did pass some exemptions for commercial real estate developers at trump's request, but otherwise they had to do a ton of damage to their base to benefit their donors. The mortgage stuff in particular is massive if you're a dimwit overleveraged dentist living in a mcmansion in athens, georgia or whatever.
