My AF computer takes almost two minutes to boot and become useful. Unless I'm trying to load anything via the internet, then basic webpage load times range from 5 seconds to 3 minutes.

I work directly for NMCI and my company machine for home (that i literally never use) works well. HOWEVER my office only has a NIPR connection and I have to use a NMCI Navy machine for work. Every morning I waste over an hour restarting for updates before i can i can check my email. We beg for new machines but most likely it's the loving image.

I pretty much assumed that whatever security methods they go with are the stupidest possible option. I won't even try using an NMCI computer that I haven't logged onto before unless I have 30+ minutes that I can throw away.

NMCI is absolutely stunning at how lovely everything they touch is. I can't imagine there being a single agency worse at it. They are the Pakleds of computers. Edit: Sorry crabman

The best thing is how new computers are imaged off old computers. :downs:

That's not changing, Cortana is incredibly difficult to completely remove, even for an enterprise image.

We use the Windows 10 LTSB build at work and it doesn't have any Cortana, app store, etc. bullshit - it's not even possible to install it. It also has 10-year support so we won't have to worry about a new image until 2026

Noticed McAfee eating all the CPU time on a laptop that never did before. Dropped in a ticket.

Turns out the DLP they enabled the previous restart was 100% incompatible with the way Outlook was configured. Almost like they just test this poo poo live.

A week later they installed another DLP suite that gets in a slap fight with McAfee every hour.

The best way to prevent data loss is to make me never turn on the machine I guess.

Oh, absolutely. The primary purpose of any large contracted software system is to help secure further contracts. A system which functioned perfectly would be suboptimal, since it wouldn't require a maintenance contract.
