I think I'm more excited about Shadowbringers than I have been for any expansion. The aesthetics are cool af. The story hooks seem cool af. I'm only mildly disappointed about Dancers and I never gave a gently caress about races because I'm already Highlady master race and it would take something really insane to ever make me want to race change. So everyone being so doom and gloom about it is baffling to me. Also, I wish viera were never put in this game because they have never been an interesting race. They were boring in FF12 and they're still boring now. The amount of people going psycho for them is honestly baffling to me.

For me it’s not about the races in particular so much as what they represent by gender-locking them. Women sexy only, guys beastly only is a running thing in media that women in particular have been pigeonholed into, especially in video games. FF14, a game which up until now was pretty renowned for being decent with gender stuff, added: 1: a female only race that was sold in their teaser as basically playboy bunny girls that wink at you 2: male only race that is beastly with a beast face rather than the standard pretty faces everyone else has Which feels like they’ve time-traveled back a decade or two and thought “Hey, you know what we need for our video game? To appeal more to the 13-30 straight male audience! What? Other demographics? What other demographics?” Yes, some women/gay guys/other are going to play and be happy with the sexy ladies and beast men, and this is fine for them. And straight guys can play what they want, which on its own is fine too – the problem is the lack of options to play as anything buy sexy lady or beastly man with the new races. Because bunny guys make the male devs uncomfortable and beast ladies are… Whatever, nobody likes buff ladies anyway, amirite? Again, I’ve got no problem with the current female viera or male Hrothgar, I just want them to be equal, gender and culturalwise. I'm hoping they add male viera and female Hrothgar so it doesn't feel like pandering to a narrow audience while shutting out the rest of the playerbase. More options are better, and if a limited budget was the issue they still could've handled it in ways that weren't leaning on tired stereotypes. It doesn't make me particularly angry, but it does get me kinda down.

i was never going to play male viera anyway and have always been psyched to get to finally play a bunnygirl but i know a lot of people who were extremely looking forward to that and, because i have empathy, i feel bad for them and am disappointed in SE's reasoning on the issue i'm more upset about dancer anyway, personally

My thoughts on this are mostly limited to "I'm already a catgirl, so why would I want to be a rabbit girl? Doesn't add up, bub." I do think that adding the opposite gender versions of the new races ina future expansion/patch would be a good idea though. Sounds like they only had the resources for one new race, and decided they didn't want to do male Viera for whatever reason, so they made a male "counterpart" to them for flimsy reasons. So time could theoretically address this issue.

Fursonally, I think it's fine to be upset at a billion dollar corporation for pulling a "we just didn't have enough resources!" card to explain their sexist design decisions. I would have preferred if they had just not bothered to add the races and instead made the current ones not look like poo poo, but advertising that you doubled the character models polygons probably doesn't have the same effect as mentioning sexy bunny girls. Regardless, Catgirls for life, now and forever. Laughing my loving rear end off. What work did they even do then!? If it fits on a Roe it fits on a tiger man!
