People think Trump is going to pardon them if convicted of contempt of Congress. Or people think the DOJ will decline to prosecute people referred by the House for contempt.

Jealous Cow posted:People think Trump is going to pardon them if convicted of contempt of Congress. This seems like a bad strategy though. If they all say “no thanks we aren’t gonna be able to make it” to lawful subpoenas for constitutionally mandated legislative oversight, which is then ignored by the other hand of the executive, then we have a very real constitutional crisis right now. People are going to be much more comfortable with impeachment when it isn’t just a referendum on Trump and becomes a referendum on the constitution itself. They should just show up and shrug at every question and say “I don’t remember” and then Democrats look like they are chasing phantoms.

See, people kept saying that, and then MoS delivered a Superman that was human (relatively speaking), relatable, limited in his powers and insecure in himself, and suddenly everyone shits their pants and dumbasses call the producer an objectivist because Superman didn't smile enough or whatever. MoS showed that what people actually want from Superman is the simplistic fantasy of a kind-hearted father figure that will always save the day with a smile, and anything deviating from that is (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

Two of them were under Obama by a Republican house (Holder for not showing up to a hearing about Fast and Furious, and Lois Lerner for not testifying about the IRS scandal). Before that you have to go back to 1983 and Rita Lavelle, who was sentenced to 6 months in jail. All the rest were eventually dropped when the information that was being sought was turned over. This is very much not a normal occurrence.
