I was about to say that actually, S1's middling episodes I view as bad because DS9 reaches such quality that "middling" is below the line for me. I don't particularly have strong opinions on many of them though so ultimately it's probably unfair to call them genuinely bad.

That's why I'd call them middling, not bad. They're just sort of forgettable. The yelling at a cloud episode is probably the worst from 1? At least Move Along Home is entertainingly stupid.

The only issue I had with the episode is that Quark crying on the floor should have had him rigging the game or something. I honestly thought that was what he was doing.

I have no idea about "revision". I genuinely didn't remember watching it when I was 16, and when I re watched it a few months ago, I genuinely enjoyed every single minute of it.

I was like "Lol that was amazing." then I googled it and was completely stunned that it was considered to be the worst episode of DS9 but in many circles the worst in all of trek. I was shocked.

I haven't heard a good reason as to why it's bad, but then again, I'm not interested in watching a 30+ minute youtube video of an angry white dude screeching about it, which is all I was able to find.

To be fair, we had pretty much the same episode as the third in TNG (not counting the pilot as two episodes), right after the white slavery black savages episode.

Definitely would've been a lot of people very permanently saying 'gently caress this show' after that these days, and I probably would've been one of them.

Just saying, yes, bad episode, all 'love potion' episodes or stories are bad, but other episodes are not that episode. Which is as far as I'll go defending the Orville, because while I think it's not a bad show, I'm not a big enough fan to stan for it.

Honestly, the "Bajoran" societal structures as established in cloud yeller are so individual to that episode and never brought up again in any way whatsoever in the rest of the show, I basically don't count it as a Bajoran episode. It really does feel like some other random planet/society they had to make friends with then never revisited again, like a random planet of the week episode in one of the other series.

None of the "love potion" Trek episodes, for all their awfulness, ever descended into "and then the main characters intentionally de facto raped two aliens by using the plot item of the week to make them temporarily fall in love with each other, in the name of diplomacy (and in a day they'll realize what happened and probably immediately murder each other after starting an interstellar war)".

Yeah, they saved that for the clone and racist Irish episode, where they had (by implication in the near future) all the clone women get diplomacy-raped by leering Irish caricatures while they (Picard) chuckled about it.

Just saying, Name Brand Trek has plenty of horrible poo poo in it too, let's not pretend otherwise.

I'm not defending that episode, but I could totally see that happening on TOS.

Move along home and The Storyteller are both good episodes. If you want to talk bad DS9 episodes, can I present for your consideration, The Muse?

Ghost Leviathan

Exploration is ill-advised.
The Muse was apparently one where the writers realised that they were turning Jake into too much of a Wesley and/or it was definitely an episode of writers jacking off about being writers.

I had no strong feelings on the passenger, but I quite liked Vortex, if only because Odo got some great development, and we see through all the harumphing that he would do anything to find more about his people. Plus ferengi phasers look wicked
