I'm not a businessman, but even if a thing you bought has made you more money than it cost, it isnt an appreciating asset if it itself is worth less than you paid for it. I'm assuming the printing press for the newspapers I worked for have been paid for several times over but the press itself is antiquated as gently caress and probably worth 10% of what the owners paid for it 40 years ago or whatever. that's way too many words where a 'lol' would suffice so lol

So if you buy a Tesla for 100k, and it drops in value to 20k, but then the next year it's worth 21k it's "appreciating". fwiw a lot of vets come out of the service as socialists and also more than a few as honest to god anarchists, it's just that that doesn't fit the mold of what the media has conditioned people to expect from Are Troops so if you aren't a flag humping chud on exit you're almost entirely ignored i had an hourly once I hired out of the Rangers who I turned into a socialist (not commie tho, alas, not enough time) who admitted that a big part of the reason he was receptive was because I was the first person he engaged about politics after they found out about his background that didn't immediately bail once he started asking questions. Not like "have you considered the Marxist analysis?" mind you, but like "why aren't we seeing better jobs being made despite giving big companies trillions?", they'd just shut down and disengage lol. He said it frustrated the poo poo out of him also worth noting that the troops are gayer and browner than the population as a whole because the primary driver of recruitment is forcing people into it by denying them any other options and making them desperate
