logic? politicians can just claim that anything they don't like will cause anything they want. it's not like anyone will call them on it.

Like dude people love their health insurance because it has good coverage and doesn't cost them much money, nobody is emotionally attached to loving Aetna or whatever lmao.

they are intentionally conflating healthcare with health insurance the insurance companies all started doing that a decade ago, trying to call themselves "healthcare providers" and poo poo

it was probably a year or two ago, but there was an article posted about some research that was done that considered an annual cohort of med-school grads from across a variety of different schools, and observed to which cities / areas they were most frequently settling in after their initial rounds were complete and they could begin residency. something like 70% of the respondents refused offers of higher salary / better perks from hospitals is highly conservative areas. they were voluntarily taking pay-cuts to instead work on the coasts, or (in the case of texas) a city like austin that's a well-known outlier relative to the standard state political scene. when asked why they were turning down all that money (sometimes as much as a $250k/yr difference) a lot of the new doctors responded something along the lines of "i don't want to raise my eventual children in a state that includes a school curriculum that denies evolution in favor of jesus dinosaurs and abstinence only education". basically these highly educated people, that are specifically trained to help save the lives of others, cannot even be compelled by money to move to regressive cities / states. this has some pretty serious implications for the future lifespans of people in those areas, as their current doctors will eventually retire / die, and very few new grads are even willing to set foot in their cities. essentially, the only new doctors that were willing to move into regressive areas were doctors that were either natives of a given place, or else natives of a similar location. anybody with any sense is their heads is correctly deciding "no loving way do i want to spend my life around these god awful fucks" anyway the good news is, if there is another civil war it's extremely likely the conservative team will very quickly suffer massive casualties from what should be otherwise minor injuries / illnesses, because there's not going to be anybody around to actually provide medical care for them.

I somehow missed this, but remember last week when Trump went after Ilhan Omar and other Democratic women of color? Well, the NYT sent its reporters out to cover the reaction to that shocking development, interviewing...white voters in rural Michigan diners. ("These Michigan Voters Show How Trumps Go Back Attack May Help Him"). Trump goes full Nazi and the NYT responds with Cletus Safari #837. Unbelievable.

I mean, cost of living alone means anyone in any industry has a compelling reason to leave places like CA. But I personally accept that cost to not have to live with the people of Arizona

^^^^ Unfortunately, CoL is now based purely on how nice a place is to live instead of how good its economy is. Plus what's the point of making $500k a year when there's nowhere to spend the money? It might be fine for an oil field or a mine where you know you're gonna get in and get out, but people who spent a decade in school plus residency generally want to practice longer than that.
