It's complicated and doesn't come up much because Goldberg only did 31 episodes as essentially a one-scene-per-episode guest character in most cases. But Guinan is at least 500 years old and is basically the Star Trek version of Gandalf, which is to say she has magical powers but maintains limitations on their use out of ethics/divine mandate, and most of her super power is Good Advice.

I think Guinan is my favorite part of TNG. No matter what Whoopi does or says for good or for bad, I will always remember and love her as Guinan. Pure, good, mysterious, writers-had-no-idea-what-her-deal-actually-is, Guinan.

Edit: if you really think about it, she's the one right in the front of the ship. She's got the biggest bank of windows right at the tip of the saucer, while the bridge has a TV and a skylight. She's right there, man, first one anywhere they go.

Was just watching 'I, Borg' there, and Guinan talks with Hugh saying how the Borg wiped them out.

Now, in another episode her species had deals with Q and could fight him as near/almost equals.

So why could the Borg take them over in the first place, and why isn't the Borg going for Q and not lesser things like other mortals.

The Q Continuum is basically an extradimensional plane of existence. I have a feeling the Borg might have trouble finding the Continuum.

The Borg didn't have much problems finding Fluidic Space though, but they did get their asses handed to them courtesy of Species 8472 when they tried to invade.

The Q Continuum is a different matter, and would probably be defended by a single Q who snaps his fingers and reduces the Borg Invasion Fleet to the size of Cheerios and proceeds to wipe them out with a croquet mallet.

8472 are just normal but advanced aliens from an alternate dimension. There's no reason to believe that at the first signs of getting uppity a Q couldn't instantly erase all Borg, everywhere.

In some Voyager episode Q told Q "don't antagonize the borg". I don't remember it being clear if Q was worried they'd cause a ruckus among other lesser species, or if was fear though.

While Worf is particularly wrong in Darmok it is ultimately Riker who fucks everything up for everyone. Every decision he makes takes the situation closer to catastrophy. The Alien Captain would be alive if not for him. It would be in character for him in Season 1, where he's shown to be impulive and very protective of his Captain, but this is in Season 5; he's got his beard now and really should know better.

Riker is not a great leader. Jellico‘s critique of him is fair, he’s too buddy buddy with his crew and is prone to complacency and letting poo poo slide.

I just assume the Guinan’s race could stand with the Q because most of the time Q’s just mildly gently caress with their chosen tormentee and Guinan’s race managed to convince every Q that came along they’re doing the wrong thing with a good ear and some gentle advice.

Yep.

So, question about Wrath of Khan. Khan says the famous line, "Ah Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It is very cold in space."

When has Khan been learning Klingon proverbs? He was shot off into space in the 1990s, woken up by Kirk and dumped on an abandoned planet. Did Kirk give him a book of Klingon proverbs to help him pass the time?

I mean, of course, in real life, it's a French proverb, so...
