LA is near the coast and will still exist. Some of the sprawling suburbs probably aren’t viable but SoCal as a whole will still be a major population center. It’s places like Vegas and Phoenix that are going to be gone.

SoCal is predicted to get wetter winters actually, with El Nino storms becoming more and more common with the oceans heating. Summers will suck and we effectively lose and semblance of Fall tho.

I agree but every indication is we're going to hit 4C and that means that Riverside is going to be hovering around 120 degrees for 3 months of the year and probably have a handful of 130 degree days. It's just not going to be economically viable to live here anymore, much less in hothouses like Victorville, Menifee, etc. LA and San Diego have too much money in them to abandon IMO. All the orange groves (and most other native plants) will be dead, the weather will be miserable, and the economy will have cratered due to all of the other crap that comes with 4C. Most projections for the IE have it ending up where Phoenix is now, except with a wetter winter. lovely, but still viable. Larger, more economically important areas like Riverside have a good chance of still being around in a century, particularly because they’re growing right now. Places like Victorville that are already struggling are gonna dry and die though, yes. We’re gonna see a retreat to urban centers that can be efficiently cooled is my prediction. So I'm going to ask some questions about the PG&E outages because I'm curious what the popular opinion is: - Should PG&E be socialized? - Alternatively, should PG&E be broken up? - Should we focus more state resources on burying power lines? Is this a worthwhile action to reduce the risk of wildfires? Looking at previous posts it seems there is support here for the first option.

It's an interesting question, but it's not something that high quality polls get regularly done on, I'd imagine. My educated guess is that cities taking over would probably be a lot more popular than the state government, even though imo that's the ideal soloution because this kinda poo poo should be regionally managed rather than lots of little fiefdoms. Couple of places have voted for municipal fiber/internet, so it's something that the electorate can be persuaded on.

My analogy is that the house is on fire, and the fire is spreading, and there are people standing around saying "the house is not on fire" and others saying "perhaps although the house is on fire there will be very little damage" and still other people going "the house is on fire but it's not our fault and there's nothing we can do without it costing quite a lot of money." Meanwhile, we need to put out the loving fire, and then, and only then, will we be able to assess the extent of the damage and consider what we may be able to do to begin repairs and how much that will cost (and of course the house will never be the same again no matter what we do). In this analogy there's also a lot of people standing around throwing extra wood into the house and lighting more matches and poo poo, it's some kind of hosed up community arson attempt, look analogies only go so far

This group consists of some people that sincerely believe that almost all of the experts without conflicts of interest are proven to be wrong because of talk radio, cable news, or a YouTube video, more people that are simply acting out of spite since they are holding on a petty grudge against the guys asking to change the car’s trajectory, some of them that think changing our trajectory now would be too costly or that it’s not fair that some passengers has to pay more for the change in direction than others, and not a small amount of nutjobs that think that it’s fine regardless of what happens because the rapture is coming within our lifetimes anyways. Meanwhile, the majority of people are rather passive and doing nothing besides maybe opening an ethically vegan window to create some drag and to slow down the process, and as the driver does nothing to either press the brakes or to change direction, the momentum from having previously accelerated so much down this path and the irresponsible continued use of the gas pedal is taking us deeper and deeper into unknown territory.
