Back when I was young I used to joke that I could lie down on my smallish hometown's Hauptstraße overnight and nothing would happen because the Bürgersteige wurden hochgeklappt after like 9pm. I remember trying to find a restaurant or at least a Kneipe or w/e on a Saturday evening at like 22:30 and with the exception of one Raucherklub (that was during that weird time in Bavaria where Lokale tried to circumvent the Nichtraucherschutzgesetz by declaring themselves Raucherklubs and demanding guests to sign a membership declaration) literally nothing was open. And nowadays there are like three hip joints where young people can drink honest to God cocktails, and they are open way into the night, and there is a restaurant with a Michelin recommendation and a bloody St Oliver chainstore and I guess that I've been gentrified when I wasn't looking

The Buchgeschäft has exchanged its Schaufenster with these sorta Balkontüren and had them open so you could walk in and was selling coffee and it was... kinda nice actually? Beyond-Meat-update: Tried their cevapcici over the weekend, and I figured you can't really gently caress up store-bought cevapcici, because people expect a little roll of Formhack with a massive amount of seasoning (frische cevapcici mal ausgenommen). And they completely cheaped out on the seasoning. Bit confusing why you'd go that route on cevapcici, where no-one really expects outstanding texture, as opposed to the beyond meat burger patties and hack. The hack was good, by the way. Excellent texture, decent Eigengeschmack, perfect for chili and the faux-Carbonara I made. Probably gonna try making some Bremsklötz with it next. Also, police-doggo
