The answer I got was that they couldn't finish booking the trip unless I had lodging in it as well, despite my already providing justification for not booking any. DTS was already giving the group I'm with hassle about not booking the cheapest flights until we explained that there was no way that we could make our international flight with the time the layover gave us. At least they finally shut up about that.

Weird, I've booked tons of trips without having to select lodging. Pretty much any det where we're not staying on base involves booking a block of rooms outside of DTS so that everyone is at the same location. Though I do recognize that my last command was blessed with an abnormally awesome travel person and things often aren't as smooth out in The Fleet.

Geizkragen, thank you. I'll likely end up doing this.

No, you are awarded the order of Magellan for circumnavigating. Its a tradition, and you receive a piece of artsy paper with some words on it. No actual award.

No. Dunkirk had a very minimalist take to .... well .... everything.

This is LOUD. Everything is turned up to 11. loving goofy style. I dug the planes and ship porn but oh my god the dialogue was terrible and corny as gently caress.

Also hella hosed up uniforms didn’t those guys have starch back in the day. Saw more wrinkles than my grandma in a two piece.

I think DIs broke my brain. :o
Opened a school newsletter thing, saw a little profile piece about the Major that teaches the AFROTC classes. Legit could not get over thinking about how much her cover looked like rear end. And this is after going on a meet-and-greet type visit to my next command where every time I talked with this one CDR I kept getting distracted by how much his sleeve rolls looked like garbage. e: also fwiw once upon a time it was a fun way to dunk on shitlord department heads. OPS being a condescending rear end in a top hat to the FSAs again? “Oh hey sir you need any help squaring away that uniform? Wouldn’t want you setting a bad example to the guys ya know”

While the Dauntlesses are modeled in pornographic detail, not one Wildcat is seen on-screen and no American fighters are mentioned in the film. Midway is basically Dick Best Wins the Battle of Midway Despite the Interference of Other, Less Competent Men

This is 100% correct upon reflection it’s just Mitchell’s and the two carrier bombers. Seriously not one wildcat close up.

There were B-26’s at Midway, but I don’t think there were actually any B-25s within a couple hundred miles during the real battle.

I’m no expert on the profile so the 2 engine bombers they showed doing work at midway could have been B26.

Right, but we were talking about B-25s.

I haven't seen the movie, but I know it shows B-25s because they were in the trailer.

Maybe try some maritime museums/nautical galleries. Some of them end up with old drawings and plans that get declassified. Even if they don’t some of those folks have their networks and might be able to help you hunt.

e: Maybe someone at that place https://mitmuseum.mit.edu/collection/nautical
Knew some guys that had visited it and said they had cool old engineering drawings.

I know theres a lot of joking going on, but I dont think the US Navy has used these since the 60s and they were laid down in the 40s. I think it'd be interesting to look at old ship designs if anyone does have a resource.

Edit: not for the requested ship, but pretty cool https://maritime.org/doc/plans/

It's the sequel to Down Periscope. It revolves around a disgraced SWO and a bunch of rag-tag sailors taking a defunct member of the Tin-Can Navy and pitting the plucky upstart against today's Nuclear and AEGIS fleet for a shot at his own command.

The excercise is cancelled after the ship's fourth ARI and a fraternization "situation".
