Edit: for the value of a cbill it also matters how much the ruling house wants their peasants in abject poverty. The Liaos really get off on it, the Steiners not so much. Accordingly the Kroner Bill has one of the highest rates against the CBill because of the Steiner focus on trade and not basing their economy on hand turning power generators to power battery packs to run handheld lasers or dig holes

https://www.nexusmods.com/battletech/mods/146 'arm weaponry can survive' this seems like it'd be pretty useful/fair for anyone to include.

it seems dumb that an intact arm is automatically destroyed instead of falling off wholesale if its intact, so yeah

It's really easy to stay good with pirates, just do missions for them in the independent periphery. You can't gain or lose rep with local governments, so feel free to poo poo on them all day long. There's almost no reason to do contracts for local governments and every reason to work against them.

It would be cool if they would eventually get occupied if you poo poo on them too much. That would lead to real mercenary problems where if you favor one side too heavily, they win and you now lose your punching bag.

The problem with being good at your job and doing short term contracts means you quickly find yourself out of work.

I would say that the average value and quantity of poo poo you scrounge from salvage at the end of a campaign would easily let establish your own mini kingdom. I know it's a video game but goddamn it's kinda ridiculous

Some of the Clanbuster mechs could be pretty good - a Black Knight with a full set of DHS, a hatchet, and a suite of pulse lasers, or a King Crab with dual gauss rifles would be pretty terrifying to see on the other side.

You also have the capability to field a reinforced heavy/assault company with advanced technology and a leopard to move them around. That's more than enough to hold a periphery world.

Ehhhh depends on who gets interested. There are plenty of examples in the lore of some very not to be hosed with merc companies and regiments getting really pushed to the edge and only saved by plot armor when a real military focuses on them as a single target rather than just another combatant in a larger fight.

Even the Magistry of Canopus would be able to wipe out your best lance if they really wanted your planet.

Started getting into the level 4-5 difficulty stage of my campaign and I'm starting to remember why I dislike this stage of the game; the action economy becomes king and you can't do anything about it. The game starts throwing two or three fully equipped lances at you, against your single lance, which force you to bring the heaviest mechs you have, just to tank all the incoming damage while also forcing you to output as much firepower as possible. Normally this would be fine if you could fight each lance one at a time, but because of the size of most maps, as soon as you engage one lance the next one is right around the corner ready start firing at you. It so frustrating because you can't do anything about it.

I honestly rather bring two lances of mediums in those situations and it annoys to no end that I can't. I wish the game would let me bring in reinforces the same way the computer can.

Hier graben!
After finishing my current career with all of the new DLC content, I started a new campaign with the intent to transition to career after.
A couple of observations about this:

1. You do not get the Heavy Metal loot crate at the start of a new campaign.

2. Going for full cash this time is working out well. I've got plenty of cbills to shop for nice stuff, which leads to...

3. The new weapons are OP. Four hours in, I was doing decently until I went shopping in a well-equipped store for a couple LB-10X +, a UAC20, plus a few other things - and now I'm just blowing through contracts.

I really enjoy them connecting back to the Clan and getting a Clan mech, it's just genuinely cool. I get that it's another 20 years before the clan invasion but I hope that's where they go next with this, if they do a second game.
