Well that's because the multiplayer was a regression in almost every aspect from Titanfall 1, sorry to burst your bubble folks. The garish skins don't help either and are completely at odds with the original. Even if it had been released earlier in 2016 I don't believe it would have been more popular, except to PS4 players.

The MP missions in TF1 were about participating in a future war with a rugged utilitarian art design to the world and scripted elements. TF2 is a static virtual arena, like Halo, with a similar bland synthetic clean and sanitised design. The original, while unpolished, was the very first game to attempt a realistic online sci-fi conflict with AI soldiers and vehicles and cinematic elements, that has since been dumped and forgotten. What Halo should have done years earlier, or a sequel to Battlefield 2142.

Titanfall 2 is not a proper followup to Titanfall 1, it's just a (very well made and inventive) story campaign expansion with an abomination of an MP mode slapped on. I put a good hundred hours in the 360 version, and was eager to play on Xbox One if it hadn't been a jagged 720p visual mess. After the TF2 campaign, I put a handful of hours into the MP then uninstalled it immediately.

psyman posted:

Frankly I think they did play it, and like me found the multiplayer was a backwards step from Titanfall 1 in almost every way except movement and new pilot/titan designs. Respawn took an immersive story-driven online war experience and turned it into a sports match arena with inferior dead maps, ugly skins and an amateur UI.

This thread has been an echo chamber of positivity for 2 years from people who I think just have low standards outside of the meta gameplay mechanics (which are top notch). I’ve tried to get into TF2, but it does not look or feel right at all, it’s too plasticky and fake.

TF1 is a higher quality title in terms of art, environment design and ambition, it has more character, the conflict is more exciting and makes thematic sense between Militia vs. IMC. The campaign in TF2 is very well made for sure but the MP is almost offensive to me as a fan of the original. Look what they did to the Grunts for one thing, what the heck!

Genuinely I am shocked this was made by the same Respawn as the original. I hate to bring up reddit but search the TF sub there and the consensus seems in favour of the original. At this point I think a Titanfall 3 should move closer to large-scale future warfare like Battlefield 2142.

Same post exactly 1 year after. Not even a decent attempt to trolling.

Wish it was like that on PC. I have TF2 on Xbox, but I first got it on my PC since years ago I didn't have an Xbox just yet to play it. Used to be able to find games no problem. Tried lately and it was taking 5 minutes to find a match. It's a bit brutal and I hope they'll just put TF2 on Steam for like 5 bucks or free.

I'll never forget the beautiful times we had later in the game's life doing dumb poo poo like p2020 only, sidewinder only, charge rifle only, mag launcher only, and we kept winning (by a lot) so we had to start doing stuff like "only run around with a hand grenade cooking and hope you're near someone when it explodes"

Titanfall is the best franchise, basically

Best move EA can do right now is to put it on Steam and make it free to claim (not just a free weekend) furing a few days or a week.

Been really lucky since the PS+ boom as I've played 5 rounds and none quit. I carried 4 of these with my maxed out pink Papa Scorch and I'm glad that the last match I played was like month ago. There's right now a good mix of poopsockers, veterans like me (average experienced players) and newcomers.

Having just played through the TF2 campaign again then jumped into the MP for a bit on PC made trying Halo: Reach in the MCC a loving painful experience.

Please EA just make TF2 F2P so people will play it and buy the cosmetics and everyone will win

It's an interesting choice if you look at the time period in which Halo first launched. It was massively slowed down compared to the PC FPS of the time like Quake 2 etc, simply so people could play it on console. That combined with the fact you always had access to shooting, melee or grenades was a real divergence from what was available at the time.

It also made vehicles a lot more relevant, which makes sense considering Halo started development as an RTS, then it became a Third Person Shooter that still had some strategy elements, and only once it became an Xbox exclusive did it finally settle into being an FPS

It's funny because I always assumed my memories of mkb Halo being kinda bad were just old memories of a bad port, but it turns out with Reach that no, the game really is just kinda clunky and bad feeling.

It's designed to work on controllers and in my opinion they nailed it. I played so much Halo when it first came out. I think the biggest thing for me was the AI. Every battle felt pretty different each time, it was immensely replayable.

I'd say Respawn are now the kings of making shooters that feel good on a controller.

that's fair, I have very fond memories of playing Halo and Halo 2 with friends on Xbox.

Destiny 2 feels quite good with a controller as well, which I suppose makes sense given it's Bungie

To this day I still love that in Halo you can throw a grenade basically instantly. You'll see a situation arise, think "this calls for a grenade" and then you're just throwing that grenade, throwing that grenade perfectly.

Every other game that perfect moment sails by as you press right on the D-Pad to equip a grenade

I’m a big baby and I never put down the R-201 despite it being looked down upon as a baby gun. Whenever I try something else, like the volt or the car, I can’t seem to finish someone off and I’ll quickly switch back.

Also the Alternator is good, just don’t ADS and hip fire away.

Both! I’m mostly using the default builds for now and trying out each titan as I play to get a feel for them, but there’s a ton of customization that’s a little overwhelming. I assume at this point in the game’s lifespan there’s some tried and true combos to start from!

Wall hack knife (whatever it’s called) and mastiff shotgun.

I’m trash and can’t really challenge people in straight up fights, but if I lurk in confined areas and wall hack I can one shot blast people as they come around corners.

It’s not pretty, but it gets me to my titan where I’m much better.

I ran into this last night. It probably doesn't help that I never played Reach initially, but I think I had just kind of forgotten that Halo really wasn't all that frenetic compared to games I've played since. It's fine, the port seems really well done, it's just not Titanfall lol.
