Right now my dilemma is to pay everyone for 4 weeks then layoffs non-critical staff to bring payroll to 10% so I can survive. I had bought a mega generator system months ago due to the fires. many small biz owners are going to be in the same position with no reserve. Layoffs will be bad. I have to basically split my personnel in half. 1 half-life with their parents the other half solo. So I'd layoff the home people first or send them home week 1 and say get unemployment till I can bring you back.

Restaurants and many non-corporate retail stores run on a day to day cash flow need. As in your closed for 2 days you can't meet payroll.

If you make $50,000 a week, why do you not have the savings to weather a storm like this?

We probably won't. Trump's core in the Republican party would go absolutely nuts if non-white folks got equal benefits from a government program, that's literally the core of the Southern Strategy and Trump was and is super open about "illegals" and people who "don't deserve" benefits. This is why they keep pushing on the SNAP changes even during the crisis. Democrats can't abandon the notion that there's some way within the current paradigm of handling this crisis, because the idea of going to back to a great depression / WW2 command economy is just not an option that a decent chunk of them could consider, even though that's probably the only way of handling what's going on, nationalizing every industry that is failing and still necessary for the country (ie, gently caress cruise lines).

I give it a month before the realization sets in that it's just simply not possible to prop up the system as it existed pre-crisis until this is all over. We were already in a massive financial bubble/clusterfuck that would cause issues if unwound, and instead it's unwinding real loving quickly on top of the actual massive economic disruption as the entire country goes in to lockdown all at once because we couldn't be arsed to attempt to contain/limit the spread.

Moralists don't really *have* beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded.

"Economic downturn" is one thing. "Complete shutdown of cash flow" is a tad more serious.

I'm not trolling. When I was laid off in 2008 from my $15/hr job at a call center, the directors told all the employees that if they have financial trouble that they should have saved for economic troubles. That moment is seared into my memory of the callous lack of empathy or sympathy from business owners, and now they want sympathy in kind?

I don't think any of us would use the word entrepreneur to describe ourselves. They would probably be more likely to describe themselves as poor anarchists just trying to make a living without [directly] being exploited or exploiting others for profit.
