Could make some nice gains in long positions acquired in risky areas (gaming, REIT) last week and most of me wants to close out, but I think this may be the week of irrational exuberance as things start to open up. Earnings seen solidly mixed to positive vs. the poo poo-level expectations. Other than a turnaround in infection/death numbers what's going to slow the train this week?

Choo choo! Unfortunately I sold my ERI for a modest gain last week, it's up about 20% since, but MGM and EPR have been solid.

Probably going to keep letting it ride for now. DeSantis is going to partially open up Florida at the beginning of May with an announcement today or tomorrow which will be another little boost to the opening excitement, and Congress is talking another $1T stimulus, Biden scandal is gaining traction which the market will probably like, etc. Then again, I have no idea what I am talking about and this is all tea leaves.

If I thought this would hold then I would transition to some blue chips that are still relatively cheap but I don't think we are there yet. Along those lines, is there a reason for preferring XOM or CVX over RDS-B or BP? I have seen the former mentioned here a lot but not the latter. Recent dividends of the latter seem higher and they are trading at similar or greater discount vs. pre-COVID prices.

Remember that as your options comes ATM that delta increases, and the delta/$ decreases. They're hanging out at around .25 delta now: a $1 increase in SPY will yield a .25 increase in your contracts. They'll approach .5 when SPY is at 299. It costs you $718 to get 100 delta in those calls you have now. That same 100 delta costs $1050 in 291 calls with the same expiry, and $1289 in 287 calls with the same expiry. So if you're anticipating a bull trend I'd roll to keep them OTM.

My personal plan:

Buy
immediate limit to sell at +10%, day expiry
If that fills buy further OTM and repeat
If it doesn't (we're on another day) then I look at overnight movement and will roll as it comes ATM to a later date and a similar offset OTM.

Well that was quite a selloff. My EV from /ES swings is a few small wins then a huge loss on one contract position which wipes out all gains.

I generally keep an eye on how the price is reacting around VWAP. In this case it hit VWAP and recovered, then VWAP started acting as support so I'll hold the position

This is my question, too. You guys doing options, do you normally buy small priced items, like those for $1.08?

If you're out at $1.50, is that just $0.42 profit/contract?

How many contracts do you normally buy?

I'm trying to get a sense of you other traders' strategies. I think I might be like most newbies thinking each trade needs to be a big win vs. racking up the small net profits?

It's $0.42 per share, 100 shares per contract, so his profit was $42 minus commissions.

A option is for a lot of 100, so it's $42 profit, cost to buy was $108
