Oh no, our 3 year old is going to be so disappointed that this delicious cake isn't fancier! Years from now he'll be so ashamed when his first girlfriend sees the pictures of such a plain cake. Our family shall never recover from this cursed green cake.

My experience is if you go all out with a 3 year old's cake they'll like it too much and refuse to let anyone eat it.

Yeah, the kid probably loved it. This is really about the parents being mad they can't post pics of the cake on instagram.

Gonna go out on a limb and say it might be that they're annoyed they paid for a cake with a frog on it and got something that was barely decorated. Like, sure, butt/face frog is funny and fine but if you paid for something a little more elaborate you'd be pissed about the downgrade.

Sure, if they paid good money to have a nice bakery-level frog-decorated expensive cake.

If.

Venezuela’s Maduro says two Americans captured in failed invasion attempt

quote:

CARACAS, Venezuela — President Nicolás Maduro said his government had captured two American “mercenaries” Monday in a murky operation allegedly intended to infiltrate Venezuela, incite rebellion and apprehend its leaders, adding a fresh complication to escalating tensions between Washington and Caracas. The socialist leader said the plan was to kill him.

In a lengthy speech Monday night, Maduro decried an ongoing “terrorist” assault on Venezuela that he said had led him to dispatch 25,000 reservists to the coasts. He displayed images that apparently depicted the two apprehended Americans in a lineup, one of them forced to lower his head by a captor.

U.S. officials and the mainstream Venezuelan opposition headed by Juan Guaidó have strongly denied any connection with the operation, which allegedly involved several dozen men, most of them defectors from the Venezuelan military who had been living hand-to-mouth in camps in Colombia. Former Venezuelan National Guard officer Javier Nieto Quintero and former U.S. Army Green Beret Jordan Goudreau, head of a Florida company that says it offers paid strategic security services, released a video Sunday announcing the start of “Operation Gideon” and calling on Venezuelan soldiers to join them.

The above story is not referencing Amazon Prime's Jack Ryan recent season 2 where a small elite US force also invades Venezuela.

Doesn't say but the CNN article on it is really something. (I posted the BuzzFeed headline):

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/05/04/europe/russia-medical-workers-windows-intl/index.html

quote:

It is rare for doctors to fall from windows in Russia, but Shulepov was the third health worker to fall out of a window in the country in the past two weeks.

...

Local TV station TVK Krasnoyarsk reported at the time that Nepomnyashchaya allegedly fell out of a window during a meeting with regional health officials, during which they discussed turning the clinic into a coronavirus facility.

The latest guy to fall out a window also decided to retract his previous statement where he said his hospital didn't have enough protective gear after he was visited by police and accused of spreading fake news.

They want it to be obvious so it intimidates people into silence. It's like how they assassinate people internationally with nerve agents and polonium that's trivial to trace to them.

And then still deny it adamantly just to show they have that power. I seriously wonder why media never cover blatant lies from deeply corrupt governments from this angle. Instead they play right along by saying trite stuff like "well the corpse was found injected with a toxin Putin personally designed last week and they found his anus was branded with 'lol owned - vlad' but Putin himself denies any involvement so who's to say, right?". Like I get big boy pants journalists want to come across as Serious People by not jumping to conclusions too soon, but we live in a world where British tabloids cover every breath someone like Megan Markle takes from the worst possible angle ("she's breathing in a manner that's d i s r e s p e c t f ul to her Gremlinoid Majesty!!!"), yet when it's about the truly vile and powerful it's all like "eh, we'll never know for sure, right?".

See also: coverage of Trump's presidency. The thing about Russia, at least, is they want you to know they did it. They engage in extremely blatant rigging of politics and violence against critics and then just deny any involvement, no matter how ridiculous, because they know that nothing will come of your protests. They don't give a poo poo about how obvious it is that they've been engaging in political assassinations and beatings because they want any potential victims to know that they're coming for them.

"On the inquest it was shown that Buck Fanshaw, in the delirium of a wasting typhoid fever, had taken arsenic, shot himself through the body, cut his throat, and jumped out of a four-story window and broken his neck—and after due deliberation, the jury, sad and tearful, but with intelligence unblinded by its sorrow, brought in a verdict of death "by the visitation of God." What could the world do without juries? "
