Seize the Bean, a rather esoteric board game about coffee shops in Berlin that I backed in Feb 2018 and had an initial delivery date of September 2018 (which was very optimistic at the time) has been quietly plodding along. At the time, I lived in Berlin and fully expected to be able to play in a coffee shop the game was about. I since left Berlin a year later, and in the past few days the company, Quality Beast, have announced a new delivery date of... July 2021.

Standard dice right) quote:Secondly, we have chosen to remove the knuckles from the Skull Dice design. This was prohibitive to the polishing process and had a high chance of breakage. A pleasant result of removing the knuckles was that it brought the rest of the design elements closer to the edge of the die. This takes full advantage of the 16mm size and makes the dice feel and look larger and makes it easier to see the details. So it's a win all around! I didn't loving pay you for regular D6's with a Skull on it, I paid you for SKULL DICE WITH BONE EDGES Like at the end of the day it's only $4, and this is peak 'first world problems', but it's a pretty lovely bait and switch by a company proficient enough to know if they could pull it off or not.

The renders looked like the same kind of lovely gimmick dice that have been laughed at in this thread before. The actual dice look like someone's first ham-handed attempt at casting dice at their kitchen table.

I hope it is just a case of bad lighting and that the real thing looks better or that a negative reaction will get them to try again for the original look :\

FirstAidKite posted:I hope it is just a case of bad lighting and that the real thing looks better or that a negative reaction will get them to try again for the original look :\ The normal way to make dice is by mass casting them with some rough edges, and then tumbling them for awhile to smooth them out. Sounds like this mass production method can't really deal with the nubs at the corners. They'd snap off at too high a rate, or get smoothed away unevenly, and people would be rightfully annoyed. So instead of rightfully annoyed at a broken product, they're rightfully annoyed at a subpar product.

Went through and read the comments. Looks like they'll attempt to achieve the original design based off how pissed everybody is about it.

I haven't been able to finish a project in years... But I also didn't take people's money in a Kickstarter and then fail to live up to it. It's frankly irresponsible to run a KS without a mostly complete product, or at least a plan to pay for writing if you find yourself unable to write. When I run a KS, it'll be because I have a thing written and ready to publish.

No money goes to Bledsaw and GG is donating stuff too.

Megaman's Jockstrap posted:Still, if anyone could figure out a way, it's that dude! You'd probably have to do something like casino dice and make the dice out of resin, cut out the design you want, and fill in with clear resin over it to roughly match the weight and get a perfect square die. It probably wouldn't be totally perfect but it'd be the closest approximation. Anyway, this looks like a rad tabletop rpg: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/erikthebearik/brinkwood-the-blood-of-tyrants quote:Brinkwood: The Blood of Tyrants

This looks like a fun gardening/alchemy-themed game https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/digisprite/familiar-alchemy/description It has 41 hours to go though and hasn't reached its goal, dunno if it'll be able to make the last $1000+ before it ends though. In case it does make it, I thought maybe some others in here might be interested in it. The page says it is from the people who made Doomsday Bots and Adventure Mart, except I don't know what either of those things are but maybe someone here recognizes the name and can weigh in on whether they were good or not.

I'll be writing a setting based on my homeland of North East England during the miners strikes and thatcherism, but also there's a plague and the city has been quarantined. You will be able to kick an England First skinhead down the steps of a block of council flats and hack vampire thatcher using your BBC micro you stole from the school's computer lab.
