Anything with non-adjustable armrests is absolutely terrible for ergonomics, so I hope this is a desk you won't be sitting at for large portions of the day.

Architectural Digest-worthy renovation has transformed this aprox 1660sf former horse stable/motorcycle shop/occasional punk music venue into a stunning, spacious 2 story 3BR/1.5BA alley-dwelling home, with surface PARKING, too. Open plan main level features tall ceilings, exposed beams, ducts and brick, polished concrete floors and a chic industrial vibe runs throughout this very special space that is a showpiece for entertaining. Living area is generous, with an additional sitting area underneath stairs and a custom dog house w/food bowl as well. The bright dining area sits atop the former stage (with storage underneath) and has a cozy wood stove for additional ambiance. Kitchen boasts double wall ovens, induction cooktop, subway tile backsplash, reclaimed glass and metal cabinets for copious storage plus an island with custom built-in wood stools. The DKC monogram in the powder room floor pays homage to the days of indie punk rock shows here (and an on-demand water heater is behind a cabinet)...

I hope this is the appropriate thread, but I have a question about painting an archway between two rooms.

My wife had me paint it green, the color in the dining room, but after both rooms were painted she decided she didn't like the green, and wants it painted white.

My questions are:
1) What sheen should I use? The dining room is eggshell, the kitchen is pearl. We have some trim between the living room and dining room that is high gloss pure white, but I suspect that high gloss on this area won't look great.
2) Would the "white" of a can of un-tinted paint be fine, or should I find an off-white?
3) Since it's a dark color going to a white, should I prime, or will 2-3 coats of white cover the green? I'll be using Benjamin Moore Regal Select.

your archway is a cool color. I have never even heard of pearl sheen before!

I would do off-white like you have on the ceiling. This way you create contrast with the white ceiling moulding. see pic below.

Thanks. We haven't painted the ceilings, so I'm not sure how I would color match that. Theoretically the ceiling and the trim are both white. maybe with a different sheen?

Also, to clarify we were only planning on painting the inside of the archway. Is that what you meant, or were you thinking of painting the top of the archway to the trim as well?

Either match it to the dining room or to the ceilings. Don't put high-gloss paint on drywall/plaster unless you really want to see every bump in it. Semi-gloss paint and prime it before hand to make sure the green doesn't bleed through.

did the previous owner not leave info on what paint was used on the ceiling? you could try taking a sample and getting it matched

i thought you were going to paint the whole thing. if it's just the bottom than you don't have to worry about the moulding contrast, and can just use whatever white you want

it's the same idea behind why you don't want furniture legs to match your floor, you lose contrast. just like my post a few days ago about using beech legs on a medium brown oak floor instead of walnut.

Let's talk about carpet and wall paint colors.

I'm looking at redoing the carpet and walls in 3 of my 4 bedrooms, and changing the master bedroom from the current lightly colored but cheap and loud laminate to a nice carpet, and potentially repainting the walls.

I find myself drawn to bold blue and green paint colors, and i'm wondering what a good complimentary carpet color might be.

I'm also not averse to doing the mbr in one style and the 3 bdrm in another, but I thought all 3 smaller bedrooms should be similarly colored for cohesiveness.

are you looking to do an accent wall thing where some walls are blue and the other green?

do you have an example of the specific blues/greens you are looking at?

also if you are going to have colored carpet instead of just total neutrals like gray or white, it will also depend on the major furniture in the room.

I'm not averse to an accent wall or a full wall color, but no, that was either blue OR green, not both.

The blues i liked were like a ben moore paddington blue, a sage green, or a forest green.

I wasn't planning on doing a boldly colored carpet, but i'd like something that doesn't show dirt as much, and is any color except apartment-complex-beige. Gray would be okay if it doesn't look cheap, thinking like a cut medium pile for some plush to walk around on, but not too crazy to maintain

I had a vintage one for a while and found it comfortable. The armrests aren’t the best for leaning or resting your elbows while typing since they aren’t padded (it’s just enameled metal I think), and it doesn’t have side padding, so it depends on how you will be using it/if it’s just for occasional light work or if it’s for all day every day computer/work from home. Adjusting your workstation height and the seat height to fit your personal posture/height can go a long way. It may not be as fine tuned as modern adjustable ergonomic chairs, but the polloks are baller chairs.
