I hope this is the appropriate thread, but I have a question about painting an archway between two rooms. My wife had me paint it green, the color in the dining room, but after both rooms were painted she decided she didn't like the green, and wants it painted white. My questions are: 1) What sheen should I use? The dining room is eggshell, the kitchen is pearl. We have some trim between the living room and dining room that is high gloss pure white, but I suspect that high gloss on this area won't look great. 2) Would the "white" of a can of un-tinted paint be fine, or should I find an off-white? 3) Since it's a dark color going to a white, should I prime, or will 2-3 coats of white cover the green? I'll be using Benjamin Moore Regal Select. Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/qakFzHB

I have never even heard of pearl sheen before! I would do off-white like you have on the ceiling. This way you create contrast with the white ceiling moulding. see pic below. doing two coats of whatever paint should work in eggshell

Theoretically the ceiling and the trim are both white. maybe with a different sheen? Also, to clarify we were only planning on painting the inside of the archway. Is that what you meant, or were you thinking of painting the top of the archway to the trim as well?

The Slack Lagoon posted:I hope this is the appropriate thread, but I have a question about painting an archway between two rooms. Either match it to the dining room or to the ceilings. Don't put high-gloss paint on drywall/plaster unless you really want to see every bump in it. Semi-gloss paint and prime it before hand to make sure the green doesn't bleed through.

Let's talk about carpet and wall paint colors. I'm looking at redoing the carpet and walls in 3 of my 4 bedrooms, and changing the master bedroom from the current lightly colored but cheap and loud laminate to a nice carpet, and potentially repainting the walls. I find myself drawn to bold blue and green paint colors, and i'm wondering what a good complimentary carpet color might be. I'm also not averse to doing the mbr in one style and the 3 bdrm in another, but I thought all 3 smaller bedrooms should be similarly colored for cohesiveness.

are you looking to do an accent wall thing where some walls are blue and the other green? do you have an example of the specific blues/greens you are looking at? also if you are going to have colored carpet instead of just total neutrals like gray or white, it will also depend on the major furniture in the room.

I'm not averse to an accent wall or a full wall color, but no, that was either blue OR green, not both. The blues i liked were like a ben moore paddington blue, a sage green, or a forest green. I wasn't planning on doing a boldly colored carpet, but i'd like something that doesn't show dirt as much, and is any color except apartment-complex-beige. Gray would be okay if it doesn't look cheap, thinking like a cut medium pile for some plush to walk around on, but not too crazy to maintain

I had a vintage one for a while and found it comfortable. The armrests aren’t the best for leaning or resting your elbows while typing since they aren’t padded (it’s just enameled metal I think), and it doesn’t have side padding, so it depends on how you will be using it/if it’s just for occasional light work or if it’s for all day every day computer/work from home. Adjusting your workstation height and the seat height to fit your personal posture/height can go a long way. It may not be as fine tuned as modern adjustable ergonomic chairs, but the polloks are baller chairs.
