I want to record this somewhere because I sure as hell aint posting poo poo on social media BUT I called it four years ago, and I'm calling it now: Trump will win. Rust states and marginals will go red by slim percentages, riots will happen in the streets, cities will burn, Trump's toothy maw will open and sing songs of pitch and pestilence. If he can't beat a loser like Trump after all that practice then he's good for nothing but mockery.

After getting curbstomped in her longshot primary bid against Manchin, she beat out Trump Voter Ojeda and generic milquetoast Dem I can't be bothered to remember this year to be the nominee to face Capito. This is as close to a direct test of the theory that lefty populism will out run centrist succdems in a heavily Republican, heavily WWC state. From a much earlier post of mine in Polliwanks: Gonna be honest here, and I like Paula...she'll get blown out. Again. Also Republicans are doing a fine job of running out succdems and every other Dem in the state. Bernie handily won the primary in 2016 based on the anti-Hillary (and by extension anti-Obama) vote, it's not evidence of any leftward shift in a state that keeps moving further and further right.

Based on how terrible 2016 was, I have a plan for this election. I have access to a nice bit of secluded land, where I will hike in a bit and spend the day listening to music and reading a book. If I get a phone signal there at all, it will only be voice calls. No mobile data, no notifications. Odds are pretty good I get bored in 30 minutes and come back and the forums, but at least the walk will be nice.

Gort posted:Christ, US voting is shoddy as gently caress. I don't think I've ever been at a polling place longer than five minutes. Every single state and county (municipality?) gets to do its own thing for some insane reason, and there are billions of the latter So in one place it takes two minutes to vote, and in another place you have to wait for seven hours only for your vote to be rejected because you weren't wearing a hat, in contravention of the somehow anti-Catholic Hat Act of 1769 And if you do manage to vote, and it does get counted, the electors can still do whatever the gently caress they want, maybe they vote Keanu Reeves instead of the candidate who won their state In conclusion, an extremely normal electoral system

Even where it is true, it's in the same way that the UK monarch can technically veto all laws and go on a blood-soaked corgi rampage through London. In all other ways you describe, however, our hundred thousand cobbled together electoral systems are exactly that insane.

Don't worry about it, it's pretty darn liberal in the city proper. The flaggers gave up after the monuments came down, so the only Trump caravans are coming from the outer suburbs, and there's no reason to live in Short Pump if you're trying to escape NoVa anyway. We don't normally have chud gangs shooting at protestors* *subject to change if Mike Dickinson somehow gets elected to city council. Also if Kim Gray gets elected mayor tensions may rise because she thinks the protests are caused by antifa terrorists...but she's also got significant black support.

If Biden wins, Fox is always the funniest to watch, though, and I tend to watch that, because its funny watching them scramble explaining how the Republican can still somehow win.

NBC will be more low key while CNN is more prone to sensationalism, but they'll have the same data and make the same calls as anyone else. They'll both also have a lot of mindless drivel and silly set pieces to fill time. A lot of it comes down to the personalities of the presenters and the tone of the guests. Check them both out and go with the one you like better.
