It would seem contrary to that to me. Undermining faith in the election system and accusing your own party of fraud seems liek a bad way to go about getting two very establishment candidates re-elected in a state that just went for the Democratic top of the ticket.

This is about Trump's ego, pure and simple.

Depends. For Trump, it's about ego and grifting donors to cover his campaign debts and poo poo. For McConnell and Republican leadership, yeah this is almost certainly about Georgia.

If any of it actually works. The world has moved on, Biden's the next president. If somehow they manage to accomplish any of their goals then poo poo gets flipped in a way we haven't seen. People all over the world cheered like the death star blew up, our allies have congratulated Biden, companies are talking to him and markets are acting like he's the next president. The front page of the WSJ is about Biden's transition plan. The only way you'd hear any of this insane poo poo is if you're in the right wing media bubble.

Their cases keep being thrown the gently caress out(0-12), their voter fraud hotline is a joke, they're asking for federal courts to not let PA cast electoral votes and to throw out all mail in ballots, Barr's saying that there's no reason to suspect the election was fraudulent in his memo to the DOJ about investigating voter fraud... none of this is working. It's evident to people paying attention that Trump's trying to overthrow an election, but it's not going anywhere so no one's paying attention.

Yeah people are giving way, way too much weight to whether or not Trump will de jure concede (he hasn't and won't) rather than whether or not he has de facto conceded (pretty much everyone in the executive branch already has except for Trump, Giuliani, and Bannon and even they are kind of wobbly at this point)

An official concession is not a requirement for losing an election and leaving office.

The only thing that bothers me so far is Biden not getting access to full briefings because the General Services Administration won’t sign off on Biden being the winner. I guess every other administration accepted the winner’s assertion of fact that they were the winner?

If this were real life, I would have piloted this helicopter with you still in it.
One of the giant elephants in the room for Trump as he desperately tries to cling to power is - as has been mentioned before - the state attorney generals waiting for Jan. 20, 2021 to start handing down indictments. I know there's been talk that it's at a minimum an steep, uphill battle for state AGs to go after Trump. It might also open up a giant can of worms much like if President-elect Biden decided to let his AG go after Trump.

A state prosecution of Trump would be one hell of a sideshow in 2021 as the country tries to deal with COVID-19 and a gutted economy.

This one bothers me too. We're in the middle of a loving pandemic with no signs of stopping and are in a world with plenty of hostile actors. Every day that Biden doesn't have the most current information and can't at least prepare to hit the ground running as soon as he finishing taking his oath of office is a wasted opportunity that directly leads to more people suffering and dying that didn't need to.

I assume they’re afraid of their own trump-loving base turning on them or not voting their people in at the special election in Georgia. It is kind of an ominous failure of democracy, although it’s also a monster they created by building their own parallel media and stoking a paranoid, eliminationist worldview.

The fact that Trump is trying to pull the coup is what’s depressing and chilling. Just because he’s lame and incompetent and unlikely to succeed doesn’t make me able to enjoy the humor in the situation. If he weren’t trying he’d have zero chances of success. As it is his chance of success is minuscule but probably slightly greater than zero.

This is why I think that trump is going to legitimately try a coup here. He's basically in the same position that Ceaser was at the end of his proconsulship. Just like Caesar he's the head of the most powerful Republic in the known world and no other nation would be able to step in and stop him. He's facing down prosecution and prison for his crimes when his term of office ends. And he's got a cult of personality about him and has next to no regard for norms or the rule of law.

There will be a crossing of the Rubicon event sometime in the next 2 months.
It's just a question of whether he will succeed or not.
