I'm reminded of the church policy later in the "His Dark Materials" trilogy for pre-forgiveness, as in "getting extra forgiveness ahead of time against your future sins." Obviously the character where this was relevant was a church assassin. It's fiction in the book, but I don't think there's any real daylight between that and "everything's forgiven after the fact" in the first place.

I was raised Freewill Baptist and this was a thing there too. Gods forgiveness and mercy is all-encompassing but its never presented like what that Freeper said. The idea is that God isn't keeping score or trying to pull a gotcha on us, He wants a good-faith effort to be a better person because that's all thats really possible for us lowly humans. This was my experience with a tiny (~25 weekly attendance) FWB church in Missouri. YMMV

While I understand the hesitance to want to read freep posts during the Trump era I think if this presidency taught us anything it's that the actual president doesn't matter to Freepers. They will rage at how impotent they feel against the liberal agenda and rage about how someone should do something but never do, and even if they did, it was a false flag. Sure they might be insufferable for like, a week after trump won but they pretty quickly reset to their default state. They've been without joy for so long they don't know how to hold onto it.
