Some are really good at dealing with bad transmission conditions and some are really horrible at it. like our digital UHF link for aircraft was basically perfect as long as the plane was in line of sight to the air base, but the handheld digital radios were encrypted and had absolute garbage quality because of it, it needed really clear signal to be able to decode anything so even minor stuff like being around a building from the other unit would gently caress it up. we had a handheld radio we were supposed to take with us if we left the command post but you'd lose viable signal about 30 feet outside the vault since it was shielded lol.

The sheer scale we design our cities at with the specific idea that it's okay if everything is spread out because you can just drive there yourself is wild, yeah. Makes logistics unnecessarily complex.

Chicagoland is basically 100x100 miles of poo poo completely spread out, 150x150 miles if you want to add the exurbs nowadays that is an enormous amount of space to consider when and where everything is up to date or completely broken down and so on

I'd reccomend Bookchin and Harvey when it comes to this problem. North American Metropolitan Areas are the physical embodiment of Capitalist alienation. The scary thing is that most people I know are completely ok with it, even my lefty zoomer friends.

I'm referring to when they disbanded like years ago and just came back under a different name and structure. The motivation for that "Red Guards" was too public and visible to function as an actual revolutionary org, and the new one (CR-CPUSA) is an underground network with no location or official membership whatsoever to contact. It (at least in theory) only recruits through personal connections from the above-board mass organisations. MCP-OC has always suffered from that exact same problem, and they've obviously had to struggle over it. They've had an opportunist section in leadership that basically said that it's OK to have a facebook page because they were going to stay above board and focus on non-illegal aid efforts. They also seem to have had a section that was in favor of following the organisational examples of third world maoist movements that engage in complex compartmentalisation and obfuscation of their organisations, like in the Philippines. I assume the treatment that the state has given pure aid organizations like jail support swept the rug from under the opportunists' legs and got everyone behind a restructuring into an underground network. If MCP-OC had collapsed or unamicably split, I imagine we would be seeing a lot of drama online right now.
