Not actually, no: https://www.scribd.com/document/220825632/Matrix quote:As the ruling stated, “the basic premises of The Matrix Trilogy and The Immortals are so different that it would be unreasonable to find their plots substantially similar,” the only through-line being that “both stories portray a protagonist attempting to prevent a dominant group from oppressing and annihilating a subservient group.” Also too weak to hold legal water were common allusions to Christ figures, blue lights emanating from machines, neck plugs/chips, and protagonists who “have an enemy who [sic] they hate.”

At the end of Matrix 4, Neo shows up and sees the credits roll and says, "Woah, it was a movie franchise this whole time!" Then the camera pulls back and we see the set and film crew, like the end of Holy Mountain. Where's my screenwriting award, dammit!

The Matrix portrays its artificial reality as an extremely binary us vs them, machines vs. humans, but I want to see people who are taking advantage of the constructed world to do weird poo poo just for the sake of it. The equivalent of speedrunners, or glitch abusers who have no interest in fighting the system but just want to find edge cases where you can accidentally noclip into Area 51 or exploit a rapid aging bug. Bunch of Matrix hackers arguing over what counts as half a button press. basically this:

A young friend of mine had never seen the Matrix or Fight Club and somehow hadn't absorbed anything about the movies through cultural osmosis. That was a good day, watching those flicks back to back and seeing his face melt twice.
