I've mostly been tuned out of metal for most of quarantine but a friend sent me Old Nick last night and I'm now obsessed. I normally hate jokey poo poo but somehow they've managed to find a combination of hilarious + riffs that loving slap that actually works? Apologies if this is old news for y'all but I'm dying. The speak and spell setting on the backing track owns so hard lol https://grimestone.bandcamp.com/alb...t-q-a-s-f-a-b-o

I'm sure some of you are already relieved that the goofy power metal talk is over, but I'm gonna have to disappoint you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayE8R0isjGo I just came across this yesterday. My first impression was that it sounds really really dorky. And it does, even on the euro power metal scale. My second impression that soon followed, was "Why the gently caress am I enjoying this?" Because I was. And still am. And I'm slowly starting to get why. I feel like this is one of those "deceptively well written" albums. It's actually pretty rich, there's tons of cool little flourishes and hooks and surprises (like an inexplicable short ska interlude). There's some "symphonic elements" (i.e. cheapo Bal-Sagoth synths) but they're not overdone, and every now and then some folky bits, that remind me of Wuthering Heights, float by. There's this earnest joyfulness to it all that's just infectious. I mean, the album ends with an 8+ minute track called Here Be Dragonlords. I think that alone should tell you whether you're the kind of person who should give it a spin. EDIT: Disclaimer, the opening track is kinda meh. But things pick up really quickly after that. For Old Nick, evil is real and alive in this world and its agents are cartoon skeletons that fall apart with a xylophone noise when you hit them.

Are the rest of those bands nsbm? I don’t know any of them. Shame about Pillard rejoining, Towards the Megalith is very much my kinda death metal with or without the vocals. Also Daryl is an old friend and I hope this doesn’t end up dragging him down at all. He’s no nazi unless he was hiding it from me since the mid 80s. E- I would have said they should have just had Daryl do vocals but I guess they were fine with Pillard’s poo poo so Check him out with Funebrarum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRE_Ru0cFyo Snowy fucked around with this message at 16:49 on Jan 16, 2021 |

That halo behind the statue is the Black Sun, an unambiguously Nazi symbol (as in it was invented by the SS, unlike the Swastika you can't even make bad-faith arguments that it's an ancient symbol predating the Nazi use of it). It is a fair bet that any band invited to play an event promoted with that symbol is either a full-bore NSBM act or has at the very least convinced the NSBM scene that they are friendlies. You might wanna think about talking to Daryl.

we need one thread to talk about music and a seperate one to talk about right wing extremism in metal tbh its boring as sin that this thread has become a constant stream of "X is a Nazi! Is Y a nazi? Is this a nazi band?" Here's some cool Kaiju death metal I found, Im not huge on the new old school dm trend but this one melts my face https://youtu.be/4pKxppf1yIk

I guess anything is possible these days and I haven’t spoken to him about anything political in a long time but I don’t think the other guys in Citizen’s Arrest would have anything do do with him if had gone fascist. I’ve made music with him in the past and we talked about bringing it back someday so I sure as hell hope for the best.

Im aware and I agree, Im saying from a logistical/administrative standpoint itd be nice to have a place where we can just talk about music and another where we do an in depth analysis on the political leanings of every band, so that way people who wanna talk music can talk music and people who wanna talk politics in music can do that.

I dont personally listen to them but I dont give a gently caress if others do. In short yes. I've found a lot of cool music and music discussion itt, id like to have that without wading through an analysis of every member of every bands political leanings. I really dont care if the bassist on track 2 of a lovely black metal demo has a brother whose friends uncle went to a MAGA rally. I work, in my little free time I wanna talk music with metal nerds instead of circlejerking over nazism in metal. Basically I want a place to talk metal MUSIC with you all. The whole "Nazi in metal watchdog group" this thread has become is a cool thing tbh, I support booting nazis out of our scene. But why not have a music thread and a seperate watchdog thread?
