Isn't Contagion basically that mod but a source-based stand alone? It's really fun but I got it way late and it has even less players than NMRiH at this point.

Contagion was developed by a lot of the same people who made Zombie Panic! Source, particularly the project lead. The Hunted mode in Contagion was pretty great, it was basically survival-horror deathmatch while avoiding AI and player zombies. Kinda like DayZ but without the countless hours of boring nothing in between bouts of combat.

I remember playing these 'sc_' or 'secret city' maps that were full of secrets and puzzles and you'd have to figure out how to make it through. Fun poo poo!

Secretcity maps don't use the sc_ prefix, just 'secretcity.' Those maps were so much fun to play, I think there's 7 total but a couple of them aren't finished, wish there were more cause I've played through them a million times now

lmao yeah. I thought cell phones and SMS was a real fun way to communicate. That game was great for cops & robbers RP that always turned in to gunfights.

TSRP was really fun to gently caress around in. I'd always join with a friend who would take me hostage while robbing stores, and while chatting with the cops, transfer the stolen money to me and we'd split it after he respawned
Majority of the time was spent running around mecklenburg trying to find guns. Best city map

TSRP was such a weird thing in that there were so many great GoldSrc-rear end maps of towns and cities and stuff. I think that was a big part of my interest in it, the crazy maps made for it. I remember roleplaying as a gun dealer.

So many good opinions on the last page. I used to do the Opera and there was one role play server club level where everyone was hanging out not sure what to do, one of my buddies whipped out a gun, fired it into the air, and ran tf away from the ensuing bloodbath; that poo poo was hilarious back in the day.

Frontline force, battlegrounds and others had a lot of interesting team play-encouraging mechanics that mostly went the way of the dodo in the CS and Halo era. There was a huge amount of innovation in half life mods at the time and I wonder what games in the future would be like if something like FLF or Firearms or whatever had been the big hit instead of CS.

It's a piece of JUNK!
Every once in a while I hear "Them Bones" by Alice In Chains and I have to laugh about how blatant the ripoff version in Doom 2 is. I'm aware of the legends about Bobby Prince being a master of copyright dodging, but in that case (if not others) I'm convinced it has to be more of a "they're not gonna bother suing us" thing. Because it's literally just that song minus the vocals.

Hell yeah someone remembers!

Secret city and TSRP maps, especially Mecklenburg, got me in to making levels, which led me to game development and a whole career! I remember de-compiling the secret city maps to try to figure out some of the final secrets or find things I missed completely.

I tried to check out the Mecklenburg maps in The Specialists but they are nearly impossible to find nowadays. I only found old versions that go over the client entity limit so I can't even load them and run around  I remember setting up my own local TSRP servers with all that AMX stuff 15 years ago so it's a little disappointed I can't manage to do it again!

Turns out I found a stash of TS maps on someone's ftp when I went down this rabbit hole earlier. Still no luck getting the Mecklenburg maps to load, lots of missing resources, fx, or brush limit overruns.

Tried again at lunch today. Did get the AMX mod for servers installed but no luck. I also found posts of mine from ~15 years ago about setting up a TSRP server so that was great lol

There's still some regular TS DM servers up so I shot some dudes on lobby for a bit.

I think the other versions I have are missing the some of the resource files that should be in a .res file or something. I haven't tried the one you linked, that'll probably work.

It just might cause I tried the various other versions I have, and while they aren't giving me brush limit errors, they're missing a lot of models that I might've deleted long ago.
mecklenburgv_snowa9 starts for a split second before booting me to the main menu with an error message that might be related to AMXX which I don't have installed in TS at the moment. "Not present on client 67," I dunno, but I did find this classic post for when you google obscure errors

Bobby made a ton of :airquote: covers :airquote: because that’s what they told him to do:

quote:

Says Prince, "The id Software development team originally wanted me to do nothing but metal songs for DOOM." Consequently the score reflects the then-current metal and hard rock genre, creating a instantly recognizable sonic landscape.

Prince originally envisioned Doom as having an ambient, environmentally sensitive soundtrack, rather than a traditional musical score. He initially created the metal-styled tunes to demonstrate that this style of music would not mesh well with the game, but they eventually ended up in the final product.

I thought in Masters of Doom it said Romero literally handed him a stack of CDs but the wiki doesn’t mention that.
